16 is the minimum age to purchase a scratchcard or lottery ticket and always has been since the lottery started in 1994. Not sure about the age to cash in the winnings

so it seems maria has been charged and seemingly made a first appearance in front of the magistrates who have would have ensured that someone on a murder charge was properly represented. even assuming that the prison officer's grapevine had not told local solicitors that there was such a juicy morsel unrepresented in their prison, the legal sharks would have been fighting for her case at the magistrates court.

i don't know whether we missed all the interviews at the police station but no detective worth her salt would consider interviewing and charging a murder suspect without a solicitor present as it leaves so much open to challenge later as well as the small question of so little evidence against the accused prior to charging.

poorly researched as usual, not even close to what actually goes on, all for the sake of a story line, although the writers do manage to get in a clever remark from craig about solicitors fees bang in the middle of two silly typical craig remarks.

I dont know how it goes there but It's a typical move by lawyers when they have a case that looks like a loser, they ask lots of outlandish questions to the police and witnesses that bring on lots of objections by the prosecution. Most of them are sustained. They do this hoping the judge has made an error in law when they go to appeal court.

So the police are going to see whether this worker turns up to work tomorrow.

'big' legal aid cases are much fought over in Manchester and probably everywhere else with some firms employing all sort of tricks to get them and to keep them away from their rivals. the strangeways prison riot. this case would not have got past the sergeant's immediate superior, let alone to the crown prosecution service and court.

meanwhile in the real world, greater Manchester police have far more weighty things to keep themselves busy.

Incidentally, no, at this stage they would not be fighting for Marias case. That happens when the case goes to Chambers. Solicitors dont fight murder charges in Crown Court.

The CPS would have told the lead investigator as much. She would have been released on Police Bail (normally 6 weeks) for further investigation to be allowed.

I didn't. The show has been going through this same phase for the past few producers. Mostly crap with a few decent episodes and scenes, with people having hope the show has finally found improvement. The problem probably lies with more than the producer.

To get back to that story you posted, i f I were a lawyer in that area and had a client charged with being drunk and disorderly I would plead no memory of the alleged event. I would subpoena that cop to the stand and back up the claim that it's quite normal not to remember certain things. Do you think that would fly?

Wouldn't take all that much to set up, a few grand to rent a portacabin, slip a few notes to the real owner of the building and land, and off you go. Bob's your uncle and Fanny's your aunt!
