PS. I did ask about exterior hospital scenes/shots, but David Nugent didn't answer that so I presume they are shots of a real hospital, which wouldn't really inconvenience anyone if they were done on, say a Saturday or Sunday when there are no clinics so fewer people visiting.

I ran pubs in 4 towns and was never asked for champagne and never stocked champagne in any of them

Totally agree, the lack of explanations with storylines really pees me off. A few lately that are annoying me are:

1) did Mary's son see the rot that Gemma put on line or did Norris find him?
2) Did he come over from South Africa specially? (At Christmas of all times and leaving a pregnant wife at home!)
3) How did he know Mary was at Roy's caff having xmas dinner?
4) Has Pablo of Maria's sham wedding fame also been arrested and charged?

I could go on but what is the point as the writers don't give a damn!

I rarely watch EastEnders but when I do you cannot help but see the superior acting and storylines and quality in comparison with what the corrie writers are giving us.

Thanks for that Janet although I have to admit that I have never heard of Manchester Northern Hospital and suspect he might mean North Manchester Hospital

I note that he mentions 'hospital scenes' without being specific. I suppose you if asked about filming school scenes you might say 'what sort of scene: distance shots from the street, in the playground, in the corridors or in gyms or dining rooms? And the way these things are done by production crews , there might be a separate location for each.

For example, Hayley and Roy had two locations for their wedding. Arley Hall and Dukinfield and travelled using a steam train in Rossendale. A map will show what a ridiculous geographical SOR this involves especially if you picture Weatherfield being to the west of the area.

As this is a SOR thread I shall continue to comment on any I notice knowledge but there are many such SORs. Be prepared

But I am fed up of hospitals.....for the time being. The reality is that hospital scenes in THE private ward are much overused because the writers are not very imaginative.

Nah, Naffink personal gav'nor No offence - which brings me nicely to Series 2 of No Offence starting soon and offering a whole range of local geographical SORs.

So i can retire from 'ospicles' on here and check Channel 4 out SORs. Prime Suspect was a favourite when it was on, but Scott and Bailey did it for me , in the nicest possible way.

As a Manunian who loves local history, geography and maps, certain programmes are manna from Heaven, a rich source for me to identify Areas and Errors and criticise the feeble attempts made by many programme makers and getting simple things wrong. Most people on this thread do the same over the wide range of SORs but just have different 'speciality subjects'.

My praise for Scott and Bailey was only for the sheer volume of stuff they got wrong in many fields but Prime Suspect was enjoyable for various reasons. Once we went to Waterstones in Manchester and there was a huge queue round the building. It was almost entirely men of a certain age queuing to get Helen Mirren to sign her book. The wife gave me a glance that said 'do not even think about it' and led me off the the cookery section.

But are they really mistakes? When I've watched programmes set partly in places that I know, I accept that they will use a bit of one place, and bits of others, so a character might walk round a corner and find themselves in a different town altogether. That's not an error, though - it's creating their own settings out of a number of others. They don't have to be true to the originals since they are creating something new.

You might also be experiencing double vision. Of course, when a doctor asks a patient with double vision to sit on the couch, the patient asks Which one?
