The Corrie writers of today have no idea what a 'slow-burning plot' is, let alone write one.

It's all 'wam, bam, thank you, mam' All over and done with in a few episodes.

Gives a whole new meaning to a 'week plot'

One of many impending horrors with the birth story is likely to be Steve's attempts at acting the scenes with much gurning and many silly walks to come.

Well that is up to someone to start one. I only watch Corrie, so wouldn't be able to contribute. But as some have said, EE is much better written and does not appear to have SoRs.

I don't watch ED but EE, whilst not perfect, it does IMO have that bit more credability and realism in its plots, or at least in the smaller details and characterisation. Okay there have been periods when it's been bad, OTT and characters have acted out of character but overall the writing and storylining is far tighter than Corrie's.

In some ways I wish this thread wasn't so busy but it is fun, humorous and informative - but at the end of the day, if Corrie didn't make spotting SORs so easy, then it wouldn't be needed either .”

Yes it would be nice if Corrie was better written, I get annoyed at the lack of attention to s/ls, writers/producers just don't seem to care anymore.

Toyah dumped Toby and Peter"s single, plus he's a serial cheat/bigamist anyway and everyone knows this.
If Leanne's meant to have pangs of jealousy, she could remind herself that she's also a cheater and just happens to be carrying a married man's child.
The merry-go-round of Corrie residents swapping and sharing partners is bonkers.
They should change the theme tune to Duelling Banjoes as all the kids will be related at some point in the future.”

I have been wondering about this too, it is such a weak s/l.

Would a recovering alcoholic be allowed to drive for a living?

It's irritating that so many plots are based round unnecessary secrets, the latest being Peter and Toyah's relationship. Characters lie or hide things when it would be much simpler and realistic to tell the truth. How many times do we hear the well-worn phrase 'I can explain'?

Funny how Roy needs to go through everything with Shona. Normally it is a case of "will you help behind the counter?", and they are employed !

Why didn't Simon just say 'dad saw you go out so he popped in to see how I was'? then him or toyah could just warn him when returning the fags, it would have exposed nothing and left Leanne non of the wiser, instead he takes a hit for smoking, it makes no sense,

The acting in the flat when he caught Peter & Toyah was bad as well. I could barely understand what he was saying in the alley.

Because she is single and lives outside the street?

I don't really get why Toyah didn't just tell Leanne about her and Peter from the start. I get she might be a bit peed off with him being her ex, but Leanne is happily settled with Nick and has a baby on the way - at least that's what everyone thinks. So surely if she just tells her, she'd come to terms with it soon enough.

The shock will kill the baby apparently (such a poor, overdone excuse on the show).

Of course doesn't stop Leanne ranting and going over the top every episode, so surely this revelation won't hurt?

Now it will take another ridiculous turn when
Spoiler
Eva starts blackmailing Peter about it.

Coincidentally, I was chatting with my wife (another fan) just yesterday after we'd watched another load of dross and came to the conclusion that we live in the eternal (and probably fruitless) hope that it will improve.

In the meantime, Corrie has actually become so ridiculously bad that its actually quite funny to watch.”

Just reading and catching up with my favourite thread and felt compelled to respond, picking out Mr Meldrew's post as a nod to his creation but everyone has made perfect and valid points. We all love Corrie, we are sad to see a decline in standards and here is the place to rant and banter. Cheers everyone.

Remind me, does Nick know the truth about Michelle's baby? (I know he knows that it is not his).

Sorry if it's been mentioned before but what has happened to Mary? Unless I've missed something she's not been seen or mentioned since her sudden change of heart about going away with her son.

With her absence it would have made sense just to have her disappear to South Africa.

I don't think simon's acting was crap, just his voice made it hard to shout properly
remember something similar in EE some years back when jay was a similar age and he was meant to be shouting in a scene and it sounded really bad

Exactly. I was expecting to see some reaction from the other residents when they found out she'd not gone after all but it's just like she really did go, unless Norris has her tied up in his house
