I live in Manchester and there still exist little local pubs so it's not too much of an SOR but ours relies heavily on its food income, Sunday carvery, quiz nights, wine nights etc none of which the a Rovers have. It's an SOR everyone goes to Devs, they used to show Freshcos and it would be so much more realistic to have people working there and bumping into one another now and again. The gym is underused and the medical centre/pharmacy and chippy haven't been used since the new set opened which is very limiting.
Since opening we haven't seen Tracy's shop which is a bit strange, and Im still not too clear on where Steph and Andy / Michael live or why Luke lives with Tyrone when he could be keeping Maria's flat warm and giving a family with a sick child space. As for the debt storyline, what nonsense. Tyrone earns, Fiz earns, they get £132 child benefit a month plus tax credits, their outgoings must be minimal, Even if we forget the half share in the successful garage they could make the minimum payments on a 20k (was it?) debt. Hurrp hasn't been seen since she got the all clear, she was staying in hospital then she was upstairs and Rubeh is Equally invisible. I'm not buying Kev and Fishwife, two snogs and all of a sudden they're an old married couple interfering in each other's business. I am enjoying (what, no moaning?!?) Jenny's return as I think she's a great character. But who will they pair her with?! You can't be single and under 40! Who is left... Dev, if leather face doesn't succumb to him, Aiden if Eva gives him the push or does another terrifying impression of Shirley Bassey, Nick (soon, when Carla finally does one) or maybe she'll fancy a younger model in Jason. Either that or have her turn and end up with the most unforgiving Christian on Gods planet, Our Soph. Choices!!

Jenny wants a job. Less than 60 seconds later she has a job.
And all that carrying on at the factory with Sally, Beth and co. Who'd a thought it?! ![]() I loved the way the factory girls all came marching into the factory together and in single file. Do you think the Connors insist on this regimentation? They were just like The Von Trapp family from The Sound of Music. ![]() Sally! Beth! Sinead! Sean! |

how much cleaning is there to do in that factory??
most factory cleaning jobs I know of are like maybe 2-3 per morning max. jenny was there at.... 8 did aiden say? before the rest of the workforce arrived. and she was still mooching about when the workers were having their lunch break. |

Some have closed down!! A lot of local pubs on estates are doing fine because of local custom
I meant to say that most have closed down where I live, which has Streets of Victorian houses with (missing) Victorian pubs so itis quite similar to Coronation street. It is not nearly as dramatic as it seems if you look at the figures, but maybe there are more in certain areas and less in others? http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news...ate-29-6095663 The Rovers doesn't seem to be in the best location for it to be packed out every night. There's another reason she wouldn't get Widow's Benefit - her husband would have had to pay National Insurance Contributions. John did, but as Colin Fishwick, not John Stape.

Presumably it was only the last six months or so of his working life that he had the false identity? She would get the rest wouldn't she?

Does Anna still clean the Rovers?? There's too many of the cast working at the factory now. It's just now a dumping ground for characters, some of whom have jobs on the side. Don't think Beth, Kirky and Sinead would be happy earning a pittance even if they live together. Something goes missing. Jenny is the first one to be accused. Yawn!!!! Pull the other one. If someone has nicked a tenner of Beth at the workplace then how stupid can she be for not locking her locker. Same goes for Sean and his french fancy. |

He sold the house and gave the money to Rosie as compensation for abducting her. Then she got conned out of the money by factory boss Luke Strong.
I do remember that now.

Wow, great interview Aiden, didn't even learn her full name before hiring her on a trial basis.
Carla just assuming that Nick forgot his keys, because that's the only possible explanation for someone knocking on her door. I can't remember all of the injuries that Carla had but it was a long list that included bruised/broken ribs. So why is she back at work and shouting with no pain or discomfort whatsoever? |

She's always on the scrounge for money one way or another, so would obviously still be claiming it, even though she's living with a partner. That is if pensions and benefits existed in Corrie, which they dont. I'd imagine Jenny , as well, having a mental health problem, would getting some sort of disability benefit to live on, but instead she has to demean herself being treated like dirt by those idiots who work in the factory. |

Of course she would get Widows allowance, he only impersonated Colin Fishwick for a short time, all the other NIC that he'd paid throughout his working life would count towards it.
*she wasn't over 45 when her husband died *she is living with another person as though they are married *is bringing up children (you could possibly claim Widowed Parent’s Allowance instead under certain circumstances). BUT She also wouldn't be applicable for Widowed Parent's Allowance because: *she is living with another person as though they are married. You can tell I'm bored when I start to give a damn about the SOR involving Fizzle and Toblerone. Also him staring at those fish and chips was just f#/ing ridiculous. Has he got *no* self control? Tit. |

Luke offering to pay an extra £50 a month to live in squalor?!!
God knows why he can't babysit Maria's flat while she is away which would be the most logical arrangement for him. In fact, a young man renting a room in the same house as a family with young kids is a very strange set-up and a silly SOR. If he can afford to pay an extra £50 a month then surely he can afford a little bedsit somewhere....Jenny's one should be vacant now. |

You are most definitely NOT getting a look at how Brits live in any soap. Most of our lives are totally dull.
We don't marry/divorce a neighbour and then do it again and again with a different neighbour. We don't go to the cafe to eat - we cook at home. We don't just walk into a job within a few yards of where we live with no interview and no idea of what we're going to be paid. We don't have houses which expand to allow anyone who needs a place to stay to move in. We don't just bump into neighbours or interact with them that much, especially if we don't have children. For people who work, during the winter we may never see any of our neighbours for a few months, going to work in the dark and returning home ijn the dark. We don't meet thugs, get blackmailed or murder. There used to be more interaction when families lived near each other, but often due to affordability of housing, jobs or moving due to retirement families can now be spread over the country. If they showed how we really live, then there'd be no soaps. Too funny - so just the same as in Canada. One thing that does ring true is the flat sharing. Rents are so high, I'm guessing, that people budge in together. I remember staying in Clapham Common years ago with a friend and at least 3 people were sharing a fairly small row flat. On my last visit in Nov. I stayed at an Air BnB in London only to find I was sharing it with at least 4 other full time young lodgers! However, agree that Luke really could be flat siting for Maria instead of overpaying for a squalid room at Ty's. That one makes no sense. One thing strikes me as not being true to the Brit character in Corrie and that's the horrific judgemental character of everyone on the street - except when it comes to Tracy. The Brits I know are far more tolerant than many Americans and just not as nasty. The treatment of Jenny at the factory seems very far fetched. Quote:

As far as I can see from the government website, she wouldn't be applicable for Bereavement Allowance (previously known as widow's pension) because:
*she wasn't over 45 when her husband died *she is living with another person as though they are married *is bringing up children (you could possibly claim Widowed Parent’s Allowance instead under certain circumstances). BUT She also wouldn't be applicable for Widowed Parent's Allowance because: *she is living with another person as though they are married. Tit. Fizzle and Toblerone, good names However, she would have been able to claim it for her and Hope before she moved in to Tyrone's pigsty and started living with him, and unless someone reported her, the DWP would be none the wiser. Of course her being such an honest person and not that bothered about money, she would have informed them herself, wouldn't she?
