Would there really be a by-election a month or so before a Council Election? By the time the necessary processes have been gone through, nominations invited and closed, all the election premises, officials and staff organised, it could be April before it could be held.
In any event, would there be a by-election just because a councillor's been arrested? There'd have to be a trial, a guilty verdict and a prison sentence, wouldn't there? I know absolutely nothing about election law, but that's the way it seems to me. Unless he resigned, and I didn't notice, of course.”
