I don't think it is a question of not accepting Simon's/Alex Bain's heritage. I find it very strange that a white couple with no African/Afro Caribbean ancestry could have a child like Simon. As it happens there is nothing wrong with the actor. He does evil well. IMO he is miscast and I think that might flummox some people too.

Of course on Monday we had a "oh aren't men useless" scene with Sally and Eileen discussing their poor valentine gifts. I'm sure that they got Tim and Michael brilliant and well thought out presents of course.

But if, in real life as ads84 says she seen, his mother is blonde and his father Mediterranean or Eastern looking, African/Afro Caribbean doesn't come into it.
We are talking about character matching and Lucy and Peter don't have African/Afro Caribbean ancestry. ![]() So the writers haven't done they work well. Ofcourse in real life Alex Baines is a product of a mother who is blonde and his father Mediterranean or Eastern looking. But people might be questioning Simon's features. Don't worry love

Why would Lucy and Peter need to have African/Afro Caribbean ancestry if the actor playing their son looks like the the product which includes Mediterranean or Eastern looking and not a child with African/Afro Caribbean ancestry, although many assumed that rather than consider any other mixture. |

It might. We have no idea about the actor's background.

Why the need for condescension with the "love"? Patronising too. Not an attractive trait.

What do I have to say to you to convince you that the characters in Corrie are not real people that people know in real life. In order for the story line to be even slightly convincing, the scrip writers need to work on characterisation. Like I said I give up.

This could explain and maybe the script writers could make it part of the story line. Which of course is how I understand genetics. Perhaps it is a genetic throwback from Lucy's family. Remember this only a soap. I expect at the time Alex Baines was chose, he was the best actor and the writers didn't realise that as he gets older he is going to change in his look. Just a theory.

We have a clue now that ads84 has seen him with his parents in real life. I've added to my previous post.
As for the character, maybe someone in the Barlows was darker? or maybe from his mother's family? A child can resemble any of his family from quite far back. |

The point that others are trying to make is that the actor is mixed race and not necessarily suitable for the role of Simon Barlow. Whatever the arguments for generational throwbacks are, we saw Lucy leave for Australia with a blonde-haired child. Now Simon is played by someone who has entirely different looks. Finally, Alex Bain has done very well in the role of Simon and this issue is no reflection on him personally. |

Tracy tells Carluh to 'leave town' and she looks perturbed by that? If I was her I'd be absolutely delighted
![]() She could sell t'factruh to JohnnyConnor, and get far away from Gail's mardy arsed face. Sounds a win win to me! |

He looks mixed-race Afro-Caribbean. Although he may well be Mediterranean or Eastern. But wherever his family is from is irrelevant.

Its so strange, Carla is the one sleeping with someone else's Boyfriend behind her fiancées back, yet she is the one viewers are meant to feel sorry for, its a pretty disturbing message to be sending out to youngsters.

Michelle and Carla are both quite dull characters. Their discussion of the Robert/Nick situation was just plain boring.
Did the photoshoot have to be at the factory? Isn't it more usual to go to a studio? But then this is Corrie and everything has to happen on the street. Of course we had to have Beth and Sean for sheer comedy value. Sean and that reflector/light thing. Chortle. And where were the girls working today, on the loading bay? Chesney. Jealous. Much. Who would want to lose a job because of that miserable munter? ◔_◔ Carla decides to tell Nick and where does she decide to do it and guess who turns up and sits there watching? ◔_◔ Norris and Mary were bitching over Sally and the campaign manager's job. I wonder if Norris' letter be a big faux pas?

The best post I've seen on the subject so far. The discussion is not about Alex Bain, but about Simon Barlow. The actor who plays the part of Simon Barlow doesn't "fit". Corrie used to be really good at matching up families but they failed this time.

Exactly. I would rather them write in an exotic ancestor than change the actor. He's been great.
![]() An exotic ancestor. That sounds interesting. I dread to think what Corrie would do with that! ![]() ![]() ![]() Sir Kenneth Barlow's ancestors lived overseas and put it about with their staff? The mind boggles. ![]() ![]()

What?!
Everything is Leanne's fault. Simon is an innocent. The video proved that and his other misdemeanours seem to have been forgotten. Hence a couple of episodes with every Leanne saying in every scene: 'What have I done?' 'What have I done?' 'What have I done?' ◔_◔ You big copycat! Trying to emulate Michelle, eh? I always knew you secretly admired the business powerhouse that is Michelle Connor. She's earned squillions for the McDonald empire and is running all Steve's businesses. Yet, we never see her in the cab office, in the Rovers she does FA except stand behind the bar and the wedding business isn't doing that well if all she has at a wedding fayre is a big pink folder! And I bet your folder isn't as big as hers! ![]() ![]() ![]() And moan at Steve if the opportunity arises! ![]() Tonight was dreadful as ever. 1. Lady Carla Quackers needed about three chances to tell Nick the truth before she bottled it! Unwritten soap law comes into force............someone will int'rrupt thou if thou bewray a secret! *yawn* 2. Tracyluv calling the shots and Carla, who we're led to believe is this 'strong, independent woman' helpless? Give over, why couldn't Carla turn the tables and tell Rob what her partner is doing. 3. Michelle continues to drink and hug empty mugs! Give the lady some liquor props man/woman. 4. Who was taking care of Amy when Tracy and Rob arrived? Leanne? ![]() 5. Sinead, Weatherfield's answer to Kate Moss, pffft. And she's got a contract in the pipeline........didn't they do a similar storyline with Rosie? Chesney is such a pointless character. 6. Norris using his saliva to close a self adhesive envelope.......right. 7. Silly moo Anna getting carried away over Phelan's depature. Fool me once............. |

That's called acting luvvie. And the best she seems capable of. When Carla goes they should give Michelle something more to do. 4. ? 5. Sinead could be a much better character without that deadweight munter boyfriend. What exactly is the point of him? 6. ![]() 7. Anna was going to lock the door of the cafe. Please don't tell me they were proposing to have a bunk-up in the cafe? But then the bunk-up is a Corrie special. ◔_◔
