Yes, I see what you mean, although, other characters like Martin Platt only moved to Liverpool and he never pops back even though he has a son on the Street.

There's not many posts on either of them so either the producers and writers are a lot better for them than for Corrie (which I find hard to believe seeing the dumbing down of most of TV these days) or the viewers of them are happy to lap up any old rubbish.

I only watch Corrie so I can't comment on the quality of the writing in the others.
I spent the first thirty years of my life in the east end of London starting with the era of the Kray twins and 30 years in a country village. Neither life in EE or Emmerdale depict anything I've ever seen, so I'd say that their stories are ridiculous as well but admittedly, but from what I've heard the don't forget the back stories of the characters or change their personalities. |

Emmerdale changed characters personalities all the time when Blackburn was there. That's his thing.

I was only saying to my husband last night after watching another far fetched unrealistic helping of Corrie, that EE and ED do not do such ridiculous stories as corrie and completely change there characters personalites or forget their back stories. I am certainly not saying the other two soaps are perfect but I don't despair watching them like I do Corrie

I like the fact that soaps are a suspension of reality as it is an escape from reality because sometimes real life is pretty mundane and boring, I say bring on the humorous and laughable stuff it makes them fun and enjoyable rather than the dark and glum stuff.

Yes. As if.
Corrie have conveniently forgotten what a two-timing scumbag Ken is. He had an affair with Martha who was educated, an actress and cooked homemade soup. When he was cheating with Martha, Ken looked down on Deirdre like she was something he'd trodden in. Then, less than six months after Deirdre's death, he's took up with this Nessa creature who has the audacity to pull her face at everything Tracy says. Tracy is undoubtedly a cow but Ken Barlow has been a complete sh!t with other women where Tracy's mother and his wife are concerned. Daniel has never been seen or heard of since after he was snatched away from Ken by Denise. That would be fun if he turned up again out of the blue but I expect the script writers have forgotten all about him. |

![]() When Mary was writing her book (what happened to that?) didn't she allude to having been abducted by aliens?

Ken's had numerous affairs, too many to mention, and also one marriage. I remember his fling with Wendy Crozier, the reporter on the Weatherfield Recorder, but he also had a son, Daniel, born in 1995 after his fling with Denise Osbourne.

Yet Dev's shop also seems to be empty most of the time, and never has people from outside the street in it. Shops like his are often quite busy ticking over as well.
Which also made me think of some other SORs - Why does it never rain in Corrie? Why are there never any other people sitting or standing at the bus stop instead of the CS characters? Why do none of the CS kids have any mates or school friends around to play with? Why do none of the CS kids play out on the street - football, roller skating etc? (They played footie out on the Street in the "olden" days as I remember Ena Sharples and Elsie Tanner yelling at them most of the time!!) Why do none of the CS residents do every day chores like the rest of us - washing the car out on the street, vacuuming indoors, hanging washing out on the line? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - How more interesting Corrie would be if many on here could have some input into future episodes. I very rarely watch it now, just dip in and out, it's so dire and embarrassing to watch most of the time, I read the comments on here instead, it's much more fun.

Yet when it comes to Tracy, he's acts as if he's a man of virtue, morals and a pillar of the community. Sir Kenneth Barlow. A man to be revered by the other occupants of the street. He's nowt but a cheating love rat! ![]() ![]() Poor Deirdre. |

So the creepy vicar actively encourages a frail 80+ year old woman to go volunteering in Peru?! How incredibly irresponsible of him. Surely it would be considered too risky for her to even be considered.

I do like Mary, I think she's one of the better characters on the Street. I couldn't stand her at first but she's grown on me over the years. |

He actually has. He appeared back in 2007 and Ken went to visit him a couple of years ago.
Oh, thanks. I must have fallen asleep in those episodes, I don't remember that at all. |

I had a friend who went up to Machu Picchu on the train and she had difficulty breathing even on the train (although she is a smoker). It would have been less riskier for Emily to have volunteered in Scotland and not so far to travel, she could have kept in touch with her mates on the Street by postcard, or even email. Peru, for God's sake, what was the scriptwriter on when he came up with that ridiculous idea. |

I doubt that Emily would be able to get insurance at her age for a visit to Peru. I assume her living conditions will be sparse to say the least.
