Agreed!

However worthy some of the in depth discussions on here now, I wish they could be taken to their own dedicated threads - they stray far from the original premise of a fun SOR thread.

I'd be 93!!! definitely wouldn't be able to cope with attitudes then - besides which I won't last that long with my health problems, and what's certain is that we'll all go some time and I'm happy to face that fact.

Any attempts at humour on here are quickly jumped on and the poster is chastised, browbeaten and told they are being immature by certain posters.

Post 1 ... 3rd November 2009 ...

I know there are many threads regarding Coronation Street - including detailed analysis of the episodes and characters - but I REALLY need to start and maintain this thread!

I'm a long-time fan - 49 years and counting! - and, although its recent quality has left me disappointed, can't see me ever abandoning Corry.

So, I must use this thread to record the increasing instances of poor production, lazy writing and lack of continuity - just to calm myself down

Remember when this thread concentrated on SORs and our frustrations and laughs about them?

With all due respect to anyone's troubles, fears, thoughts on life in general ... there are other forums for such views.

Sorry to hear of your health problems, and try not to get so wound up over Phelan.

Very few get away without health problems with ageing - it's part of life. I thrive on getting wound up about injustices whether real or fictional. Seen too much of it not to.

Yes me too, I like it when Corrie gives a nod to the past, they don't do very often sadly.

Humour - i.e. something that is actually funny is never jumped on. Playground level jokes are only funny in the playground.

The writers used to be very good at humour. Nowadays there are sometimes funny scenes and some forced which are supposed to be funny but aren't.

Two of the funniest for me were Raquel learning French and Blanche at the AA meeting - both totally in character and therefore naturally funny.

Even now the memory of the AA meeting has me chuckling.

I agree, a lot of it is down to some people not finding certain types of humour funny so they feel they must try to put a block on it, there are certain things I don't find funny but wouldn't dream of trying to stop it we all just have to learn to live and let live rather than impose our views on everyone else while quashing things we don't like or agree with.

It's on Youtube - had another look at it the other day. Has me laughing every time I see it - and the look on Blanche's face as she walks down the stairs afterwards shows she knew exactly what she was doing.

I think one of the problems is that some of the funniest posters in the past have disappeared from here, unfortuneately. I used to like Uncle Quentin, if anyone remembers him, his posts about Tyrone, Fiz , and Horrible Eileen were hilarious. Not sure why he was banned.

The problem with some humour, like the play on the word "Phelan" is that the first time you see it, it's amusing. By the fifth time is getting boring. By the 7th, it's definitely time it was put out of its misery and never mentioned again. But there are some who still find it funny - that's what's immature. Looking forward to "What's brown and sticky?" Rob's beef bourguignion. Hilarious if you're 10.

The problem is you only have to have one or two people who don't find a certain type of humour funny and they will no doubt report with the intention of getting what they don't find funny stopped rather than just ignore it.

Hole? Do you mean a puncture? ”

That's not true. Janet did get it wrong.

If you looked at further posts TrebleKing qualified their earlier posts by making it clear it was Steve he was referring to not Simon Gregson.

Furthermore, a later reply from mark a e about Steve the character and got a chastising reply from Janet. So overall, she was wrong.

After seeing this morning's posts, this has gone far enough now. Maybe it's a case of pressing the ignore button. I really don't know. It's all got far too serious and personal. This thread is being ruined. It's not the place it once was.

Same here - I'd never used the ignore button until recently, but some of the tedious and "non-SOR" seemingly endless spats have forced me to do so.

No doubt some will tell me to leave if I don't like what I'm reading but I don't want to. As with my hope that Corrie will get back to a semblance of its past glories - I hope the same for the original fun of this thread.

back to phelan, a lot don't realise that part of the rapist psyche is control of a vulnerable person, he would not go for a woman like eva who has the looks as she also has the confidence and is a very positive woman because she is used to leery men getting pervy with her so will tell the where to go. compared to anna who is vulnerable and backed into a corner he could see that so uses that to get his way, even sexually.

I will be blunt and hope nobody is offended.

I have seen a couple of threads disappear because of infighting, and it really is a shame when that happens.
Just one person can make a difference to the general tone.

I think there has been unnecessary personal sniping here. It is ok to feel irritated, and the irritation is often justified, but once personal jibes happen, in my experience the thread goes downhill quick.
Some of it here looks like deliberate provocation.

I really really REALLY recommend the ignore button. It is not meant to be used as a punishment, but just ensures that everyone can enjoy the forum without endless bickering.

My suggestion is that those who think Phelan is great, confine it to specific SORs, and those who are shocked by their insensitivity, leave them to it.

I am sorry if it comes across as a bit preachy. It is not meant to.
