The guy who plays Peter Barlow is often drained through playing the dark storylines. Which is why he has come and gone a fair bit in a few years.

I bet he is very sorry he came back at all. His character was completely ruined.
I hope he got well paid for it, anyway. And I hope he takes a nice long break to re-charge his batteries and recover from all the darkness. I wish him all the best for whatever he does next. |

I'm not surprised he was drained. He's appeared quite a lot and playing a character like rapist Dean will take it out of you. Some actors are method actors too which really is mentally and emotionally draining especially if you're playing someone like a rapist. I don't know if he's a method actor though. Even so it'll take it out of you even if you're not. It will be interesting to see Matt Di Angelo as someone else and without that awful beard!

It does sound like he can come back, so I think he'll go to prison too. I wouldn't be surprised if we see him after the next week or so in prison waiting to be sentenced.

I think if they show him being punished and getting help them it might be quite an interesting story to see him trying to rebuild a life a few years down the line.

I'm not surprised such a tough storyline would take its toll. I still say it was a huge mistake to take him down this route. It probably should've been nothing more than a crush on Linda which didn't go anywhere. Instead of rape they could've written a storyline with a much warmer outcome about how Dean was jealous of the Vic Carter family and felt lonely/unwanted because of Shirley abandoning him in the past. A desire to be part of a family particularly after prison and Kevin's death. It would've made the reveal that him and Mick were brothers a lot nicer.
I was beginning to warm to Dean during summer 2014 with the swimming gala storyline. Alas it wasn't to last. And the subsequent plot with Shabnam and Jade would've involved the other Carters earlier on and not just make it Shirley's focus. Like the Bobby storyline, this one has been dragged out far too long. Should have ended months ago. |

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

DTC has said there won't be a trial. I suppose Dean could plead guilty then there won't be a trial. If he goes to prison and writes an apolgy to Linda some fans will be OK about him returning in a couple of years. Personally I don't want Dean back at all. I hate him.

I think he has had it easy compared to someone like Lacey Turner. It must be very draining for her to play Stacey, even more so when you consider the upcoming story. Turning it off after a long day must be very difficult.

It must be draining doing a job that is way beyond your capability.

I think eastenders failed a bit with this story by not exploring how Linda has coped with having to see Dean everyday we are only seeing an effect now over a year later. I read or saw an interview I think with Danny Dyer the other day who said it happens all the time your rapist walking about free and near you, them not going to prison. thats what the story should have focused on, instead it has mainly been from deans side/perception. we have barely seen Linda this year |

I think he is a very very good actor, but there is only so much acting that is possible in storyline driven soaps. He has been given a heck of a lot of emotional content storylines - issues with an absent mother, issues with a brother that died, rape, abuse, jealousy, dead grandfather, living in the community in which he is accused of rape, wanting to be a father ... how as an actor does he manage all that. He should spend some time in theatre.

I think he ends up in a psychiatric ward. Prison or death are too predictable when it comes to exits for bad guys like Dean.

Samantha Womack had to have a break after the baby swap storyline and Bill Treacher said that the Arthur Fowler breakdown storyline was draining. Quite a number of comedians and comedy actors have dark souls or can't cope, Toy Hancock being one who even committed suicide. Playing someone who is not like you in extremis could be like a split personality disorder. I think soap actors are best when the actor and character are similar which is why casting is so important.
