It's no wonder EastEnders served up it's lowest ever Christmas ratings last night with the rubbish it's served up for much of this year. EastEnders had a great chance in beating Downton Abbey head to head like it has for the past few years but nope.
I am glad EastEnders failed to reach 6 million.

Last night was the first Christmas Day EastEnders I haven't watched 'LIVE' in 20 years and while I've just caught up today it really wasn't much cop at all.
I love the Beales and Mitchells and the Carters scenes seemed fun this year but it really didn't feel like a Christmas Special.

The Beale/Mitchell Car Crash is something we have seen before and just felt like a proper rehash.

The show is now going around in a big circle and not only do the episodes drag but there is nothing to keep you wanting to tune in.

Such a shame given the fantastic LIVE week. DTC and His team need to move along very sharpish.

You are going to look very foolish when consolidated ratings have EE on 7.5 million in a few weeks.

Its already notched up a million views on iplayer since last night.

As usual the DS witch hunt against EE producers continue.

Could this not have gone in the Christmas soap ratings thread, or the episode thread for last night?

Agree with your "going round in circles" and finding everything just a "rehash"......

I haven't seen EE in a while, but had to watch it yesterday as I suppose it's tradition to do so, but after 10 minutes, nothing really was holding my attention....

EE normally do such great xmas specials, but I didn't think yesterdays one was in the same league at all...

Although I'm going way back when Trevor and Little Mo were in it, and most of the audience would be glued to the set waiting to see what would happen, but now we've got the "invincible" Ronnie Mitchell, doing her hardman act and failing miserably....

I am suprised Dan because you one of biggest fan and loyal. I agree this year has been bad. Let hope next year is better.

Not at all.
EastEnders is capable of doing 7.5m before the officials are taken into account.
It racks up a million views on I Player anyway and in fact a standard episode is usually a fair way past the 1million mark.

Not at all. I am the most loyal EastEnders fan you could find (People that have known me years on here will know that) but flipping hell the show is a mess.

It still attracted more viewers than Corrie did. I don't pay attention to the viewing figures, as there are so many ways to watch the soaps now.

Tonight will have an even better rating .

It really does go around in a circle. The annoying things with the show at the moment is History being changed and block storytelling.

EastEnders has had some of the best Christmas moments over the years but last night's could have easily been a episode that aired in the middle of August.

I have seen people saying how EastEnders was once a Christmas tradition to them but they didn't bother this year.

All the ratings were down and Easties was still the top soap. Last night proves catch up/On Demand is now people's number 1 preferred viewing choice. Something those of us within the industry have known for a while.

Too many on this forum are sheep. This ''look at me'' thread could have gone in one of the other several. DTC won't be going anywhere, its bad enough people on here almost pushed Kirkwood and Newman to breakdowns without now targeting another EE producer. You really are the most ungrateful soap fans on the internet. You have a terrible reputation.

Advertisers do though and as part of the BBC charter EE must justify its cost and place in the schedules (although cheaper than other output I can imagine)

I think tonight will rate around the same. It will be under 6 million at least.

Corrie and EastEnders were neck and neck. Corrie did come out if you include +1

The ratings do not show that catch up is most people's number one preferred viewing choice. They actually show that most people still watch on first viewing /initial transmission.

This pretty much describes me too. The show needs a serious looking-at in terms of its storylining and story telling.

Anecdotally, my whole family used to watch EastEnders on Christmas Day. Now it's just me and my relatives avoid it like the plague.

Granted more people are using catch up I don't disagree with that and I don't disagree with TV being down as a whole but when you produce something well people will come flocking. EastEnders LIVE / Strictly ect prove this.

EastEnders were getting a 7 million Consolidated figure for much of the year anyway.
As EastEnders normally time shifts 800k-1.5m passing 7 million could be pushing it.

OH and I suggest you go look at my past posts regarding Newman ect because I was one getting slated for STICKING UP FOR THEM. Being called a ''Blind fan''

This. EastEnders used to be a main part of our Christmas Day.

I don't care were you work -no tv ratings for any soap shows that more people watch on catch up as first choice than original transmission.

Perhaps you should read my post. I never said 'first' choice.

TV on Demand IS 'preferred' choice which is a different thing. Read again.

If you think this is bad try reading the the ratings thread where everyone is going crazy over eastenders ratings.

Number one preferred viewing choice is a meaningless phrase unless it means first choice. I used the word first in my original post and you never corrected me.

I think your backtracking via the avenue of semantics.

I wasn't aware those producers nearly had breakdowns because of DS! How did you find this out?

We are actually advised against reading these forums. I will always defend Easties against the Hitlers who think they know the show better than those who actually work on it.
