Pretty sure eastenders has always been on Boxing Day regardless. I may be wrong. I think it works for a lot of people it's habit.

Don't know but surely christmas eve/day and new years eve/day have fallen on a saturday before since the 90's. Also people don't see today as a saturday, it's boxing day which has it:s own feeling.

DTC promised a death on Christmas Day (in EE time it's still Christmas, which is Boxing Day in real time). I think that he knew that a lot of people would be mad if they had to wait until Monday to find out who was killed.

I think if a Christmas episode is on Saturday they don't have another episode on Sunday for Boxing Day, so I don't see why they would have a Boxing Day episode on Saturday unless it's important.

For me the soaps are a big part of Christmas Day and Boxing Day! So a little gutted it's just Eastenders tonight

Yes!

EastEnders has aired on a Saturday every time Boxing Day falls there.
EastEnders,Emmerdale and Corrie have all aired when Christmas Day falls on a Saturday.

Next year I expect they will all be on Saturday and Sunday as Sat is Xmas eve and Sun is Xmas day.

Yes there has, whenever Christmas Day has fallen on a Saturday and EE usually airs on Boxing Day too so that applies.

Brookside also aired on Saturdays when it was removed from prime time schedules so 2002-2003.

Think after the poor ratings all 3 got , not sure too many people agree with you EE may be the 2nd best soap but still doesn't justify saturation coverage all over Xmas and new year

Schedules are always different over xmas. Longer episodes, different times and airing on days it when it doesn't normally air.

Casualty is usually screened on Saturday. It's a soap. I was hoping Casualty would be on after Eastenders but I have a feeling there's already been the Xmas Casualty? If there was I didn't see it. Either that or they'll have Xmas next Saturday!

CORONATION STREET:

Aside from Christmas day episodes, Coronation Street had a "after hours" episode on a Saturday in November 1999, they did 6 late night (22:00) eps set in Brighton as a special week, but the Saturday ep was at 19:30 , got just under 12 million viewers, (and was the highest rated episode of the specials), at a time when regular episodes rated 16-18 million.

Of course on Millennium day, there was a one hour special edition, gaining over 15 million viewers.

Next up, at the time of the 40th Anniversary, they did a special week of regular episodes a week prior to their live ep, every night for a week in December 2000, whereby most episodes were in their regular timeslot, the Saturday episode went out after 9pm, and was 4million viewers less than the best rated episode of the week, down to about 12.5 million.

I do not watch EastEnders, but do recall a Saturday episode during the 1998 Football World Cup

Emmerdale has only had Saturday episodes when they fell on Christmas Day, such as in 1999, 2004, and 2010, but the first Christmas Day episode from Emmerdale did not happen until it had been on air for 25 years.

Next year I can see Eastenders doing a Christmas Eve ep.

Corrie and Emmerdale I have a feeling they will treat the Friday as Christmas Eve
