I liked it.
Compared to EastEnders it was an absolute joy to watch. |

I always watch Corrie and gave up EE as the storylines were dire. I always make a point though to watch the Christmas ones, unfortunately half way through EE I had to delete as it was just Boring with a capital B.
Corrie always wins. |

So one soap is being criticised for being too dramatic and the other is getting it for not being dramatic enough. Soap bosses can't win

Coronation Street is always cheesy and cringeworthy, it's the reason why i don't like it.

Anybody can pick out a bunch of negative comments from social media these days & call it 'the fans' verdict' or whatever!!
I would have thoight that there were far more fans who thought as I did that, yes some of it was way too OTT & cheesy, but other parts of it were actually rather enjoyable & more of a throwback to the 'community feel' you used to get with Corrie of old!! Personally I applaud them for at least trying to give us a positive Christmas episode, also for some of the humour (Tim in particular shone last night), & for a smattering of drama with Tracy & Robert and David & Kylie!! Personally I am fed up to the back teeth with Corrie trying to paper over it's cracks with 'explosive dramas' that are invariably forgotten about within a month, leaving no after effects & no follow on storylines & I welcomed a Christmas free of all that with a comunity based theme for once! Yes it could have been done a lot better, with characters we cared more about, but it was a valiant effort to do something different for Christmas & just for once I applaud Stuart Blackburn for trying!! |

It's won 2 awards for best soap this year, it's a shame it's not getting more views. Apparently Emmerdale isn't known to be as good as CS and EE, utter rubbish in my opinion.

watch the bit with rita and norris singing down the street and tell me that's coronation street.... it was awful, Elsie Tanner and Ena Shaples will be turning in their graves.

Strip away the ridiculous 'Lapland' and the episode wasn't too much of a departure from Corrie's standard festive offerings - families and individuals gathered together for Christmas Day. Corrie has always steered clear of huge Christmas Day dramas, so it's not that surprising.
However, this doesn't excuse the complete lack of any drama. The absence of anything dramatic was only highlighted by the snow, trees, Santa and his 'reindeer'. This just highlighted how farcical Corrie has become. The comedy is forced and any injections of pathos or humanity seem to be done by big, OTT gestures. That kind of thing is what Corrie always did so naturally and with a rich subtlety. A couple of things to be praised though: We did, for once, see the entire cast minus just one or two members. Tim and Sally continue to shine, although their randy antics did make me wince once or twice. "Stuffing! I need stuffing!" My favourite scene was between Carla and Kylie washing up. Two completely unrelated characters coming together to talk about their problems; something Corrie hasn't done for a long time. |

I find myself watching Corrie these days wishing that Ena or Elsie would turn up and give the characters a piece of their mind! |

Which confirms that soap fans are never happy!
Look, Corrie has been off the boil for a long time now. They tried (and failed) imo, at times throughout the year to revive the Street, with dramatic stories like the Victoria Court fire, the minibus crash and the Live episode in September. Unfortunately, these have all been rather ham fisted attempts to paper over the cracks of a show, which is crumbling. Deadwood characters, shoddy attempts at humour and extremely poor writing has dogged the show for a long time. The man responsible of course, has been Stuart Blackburn, who thankfully, is bowing out next month. I personally have not watched Coronation Street for a long time, but I do hope Kate Oates is a breath of fresh air and manages to revitalise the flagging Corrie in time for next Christmas. |
