Maybe looking at getting new tablet to replace my Nexus 7 2012 modal.
I have up until the last few months been very happy with the Nexus 7 tablet but it has started to become slow in booting up and once in a while seems to have became sluggish. I had to do a sort of reset on the tablet the other week.
Some say I should pay a little extra and go for an IPad Mini as they seem to be made to last more than the 3 years I have had my Nexus 7 that I did like. Never been to sure about moving to apple for the likes of a tablet as I have been used to Android. My sister has the IPad Mini 2 and she loves it and it seems to still work fine. She also got an IPhone 5s I have a Nexus 4 that I will replace next year I think. I see that QVC are selling the IPad Mini 4 with 4 easy payments and been told it looks a good deal with the 4 easy payments but I'm not sure if I should go for it or not or get another Android tablet. http://www.qvcuk.com/Apple-iPad-Mini...N-_-2-_-507378 I have shopped on QVC a few times and I a member. QVC iPad deals are never a good deal.
The iPad Mini itself is very good though. |

You've done well to survive with the 2012 Nexus 7 this long. Mine was ruined some time ago and never recovered even after a full reset.
I'd actually recommend a Nexus 7 2013 if you can get one cheap second hand, or maybe even new. Still fast, great screen, timely OS updates, wireless charging, loads of accessories and so on. It's mad Google hasn't replaced it. |

What version of android are you running on this Darren?
A few of here have downgraded to 4.4.4 and this improves performance. The 2012 doesn't seem to handle too well higher versions. |

The Nexus 2013 model dose sound tempting if I could get it cheap but think as I got nearly £300 saved up for a new phone to replace my Nexus 4 I will use half of the nearly £300 I got saved towards a new tablet and keep the rest for a new phone that I will also be needing sometime next year. I see QVC are no longer offering the IPad Mini with 4 easy payments. I don't fancy getting a 10 inch tablet. My sister and one other person keeps saying I should get an IPad Mini but I have always been a fan of Android. Darren |

Yes as you say its mad Google hasn't brought out a Nexus 7 repacement by now. I still use my Nexus 7 2012 model but no longer use it everyday due to the problems I have started getting with it in the last few months as I posted above.

I'd recommend asking your sister if you could use her iPad for an evening to see how you get along with it. I'm an Apple fan, but realise their way of working isn't always for everyone which is why it'd be good to try before you buy.
Thanks again for the advise. Darren |

I stuck cyanogenmod 11 (not the latest) on my N7 2012, after the lollipop update practically killed it. Still running OK.

I might have to do that. Seems a shame to effectively write it off.

It's super easy to do with a copy of Nexus root toolkit (to unlock & root) & the CM installer, or you can forgo CM and just go back to kitkat, which is even easier with the toolkit.

I have been looking to replace my 2012 nexus too, started off by getting a lenovo a8, which was faulty, took that back and store had none to replace it and all the others were either rubbish or expensive, ordered a nexus 2013 model, argos have them for £110 I think, that is where mine will be coming from later today. Added bonus is my case is in perfect condition so I can use that for now, just need screen protectors which are easy to get. My dad had one as well which seemed to be slowly meeting its end, bought him a lenovo a7 which he likes
the 7 was replaced by the 9 but the 7 2013 was made by asus and the 9 by htc. I would get one of those and then there is plenty left in the pot for a decent phone too, if you go the route of a decent ipad then that will be all the money used and starting again to try and fund it |

As for the Nexus 2013 still getting updates, I'd expect that to stop in the same way as the 2012 edition did. It may see the N after Marshmallow (and maybe that's when you'll see performance get hit like the 2012 did with Lollipop), but I don't expect Google will support it indefinitely. All these companies program in obsolescence. |

I'm running Android 5.1.1 on my Nexus 7 same as on my Nexus 4 but as I said I no longer use the Nexus 7 everyday like I used to.
I don't think I will get the Nexus 7 2013 even if it is a cheap price. For in a year or so Google may stop the updates for it. Darren |

After having a short shot of using my sisters IPad mini 2 it seemed strange at first as I had never used anything Apple before and have always been a fan of Android but I'm now thinking of maybe paying the bit extra to get the IPad mini 4 and as the 4 easy payments is back on the QVC website getting it from there.
If anyone had asked me a month of two ago about getting anything Apple I would have said no. I know it may take me a good few days to get used to it as I have always been used to Android but my sister says once I have used it for a week or so I will love it. I may still get another Android phone to replace my Nexus 4 next year. Darren |

Got to say, I do agree that Android tablets are a bit meh at the moment. I like the Amazon one I got for the missus but I would struggle if I was getting one for myself.

I want a tablet that I know will last a good few years without any minor problems like I have started getting in the last few months with my Nexus 7 2012 model. That I have had since about August 2012.
I don't fancy getting a 10inch tablet and don't want a windows tablet as the windows app store don't have some of the apps I use. I have also looked on the Curry's website at Android and Ipad mini tablets. Darren |

Well I have tane the plunge and spent a little extra and have ordered the IPad Mini 4 with the case from Currys this evening for home delivery.
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computi...18373-pdt.html I was a little tempted by the QVC offer and the 4 easy payments and my sister said it was a good QVC deal until some of you said it was not a good deal. I already have a 4 USB worldwide travel adapter that I got out of WH Smith over 18 months ago Hope I have made the right choice as up until now I have been used to everything Android. Anyway had a look on Amazon and there are so many different types of IPad Mini 4 screen protectors. Do any of you know what its the best screen protector to get. I will before next summer also be thinking of replacing my Nexus 4 that has been the best mobile I have had so far up until now with a new phone. Darren |

Good choice Darren.
After kidding myself for the past few months that my 2012 Nexus 7 wasn't that bad, I recently replaced it with your IPad's big brother the Air 2 and the difference is like night and day. Unlike the Nexus 7, it is so smooth to use and casual web browsing is just superb. It opens web pages instantly and hyperlinks respond properly and it is just so less frustrating to use. 😀 |

To be fair you didn't need to swap OS to get something ultra smooth, just ditch a flawed tablet that got worse with every successive update.
Assuming there's no need to buy apps, games or media you already had on one OS by changing, there's no harm in giving something else a go though. |

The IPad Mini 4 with case is due to be delivered by Currys early next week and I'm now sort of looking forward to getting it.
Darren Why Curry's? Their customer service is awful. Cancel your order and go to Apple or John Lewis or even Argos. |

I couldn't wait that long. I would have to go out and get it now.

Guess I could have got it out Argos at the other end of town just never though so I picked Currys as I have used there delivery service before and felt it was easier getting it delivered then getting in store. I had at one point thought about getting it of QVC. I only have a few working days from today to wait and I will have it. I have ordered this screen protector for it from Amazon. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ilpage_o00_s00 Order on Amazon now says preparing for dispatch. Darren |

I've just downgraded a 2012 Nexus 7 that was on Lollipop to Cyanogenmod 10.2.1
Well worth doing for anyone struggling along with Lollipop, the difference is quite staggering.

Well my IPad mini 4 64GB with case is now on its way as I got an email from Currys this afternoon to let me know.
If it had not been for some your replies on here I would have went and got it from QVC. As my sister did say that the QVC deal looked good. I will now have to think about getting a new phone this year to replace my Nexus 4 that will be 3 year old come July and for now still works 97%/98% fine. Darren |
