That is an exaggeration, they aren't that bad. Both averaging just under 90. That said there has only even been one winner with a below average of 90 since 2004 and that was..................Scott Waites in 2013
To not even get in the 90's is poor. They'd have both been destroyed in the PDC and I like both organisations. Keita Ono and Aleksandr Orishkin had higher averagesin their PDC qualifiers. than Waites or Smith tonight. |

Do you think Jeff Smith looks a bit like Phil Nixon
Only if you're wearing a balaclava the wrong way round, gaffa tape over your eyes and dark glasses, whilst facing the wrong way. |

I am not for one minute saying the standard is better because it clearly isn't but the fact that Scott Waites has beaten the best in the PDC before shows it is on the day and not on Wikipedia. |

Poor show by the BBC, that. Start 45 minutes after BT Sport and it's now gone off and BT Sport is still scheduled to show the programme till 8:30pm. Thank god the whole tournament is on BT Sport next year (unless these rumours about it being the last Lakeside are true!)

I'd welcome more money for the women along with more sets. A 3 set final is a disgrace imho.

A very poor tournament if truth be told and a poor final.
Hopefully we see an improvement in standards all round next year. There is still a strange kind of charm about the Lakeside and this tournament though. |

The ONLY reason BT started early was ad breaks. They had only two breaks during the match. That is why it started earlier. Plus, what else is there to show ? Game over, presentation done, both players interviewed, analysis done.

And they played less than 10 legs not 8 sets. And it wasn't a final. If you think Scott Waites wouldn't have beaten those two I would wager as much as you like he would. You do not know they would have been destroyed because it is a totally different scenario. For one you can only beat what your opponent is doing. Secondly this was a final not a prelim match.
I am not for one minute saying the standard is better because it clearly isn't but the fact that Scott Waites has beaten the best in the PDC before shows it is on the day and not on Wikipedia. I'm not doubting Waites is a decent player on his day, tonight he wasn't that special after the first 3 sets. And before you start the Wikipedia and thinking you know more because you have interviewed someone, i've been to many PDC and BDO events, so don't try the you know nothing card with me. I know enough, I just don't need to name drop to justify my opinions. |

£12k isn't a bad return for 4 matches and potentially 14 sets of darts although I wouldn't begrudge a few thousand more to the ladies. |

To earn equal money I think you need to (potentially) play equal sets and matches.

We have some decent enough Lakeside tournaments but this was a particularly bad one, you could just tell the standard was poor throughout.

Not necessarily. The female tennis players play fewer sets than the men but get equal prize money. I'm not saying it should be equal with the men for darts but 12 grand is a bit paltry.
I'm all for them having the money, but they must potentially play that amount of tennis. They are good athletes these days and i'm sure they could play for longer if required. I wouldn't argue with 20-25k but then does the ladies game get the same sponsorship deals as the men? |

What on earth is Bobby George wearing![]() With regards to the comments about prize money - yes, the females should get paid a bit more. Not as much as the males, because the males do far more sets, but 12k is a bit low. For comparison, the winner of the Juniors got 5k (I watched the Juniors final match earlier on in the week.) |
