But one thing you are wrong about is that the BDO is run by dinosaurs, because it isn't. It was, but it isn't now. And it does have a place. The PDC isn't getting bigger because you can only play on the tour if you have a tour card. You and I can enter a BDO tournament if we wish, and that is its place. It is for people who do not wish to play darts full time, like Scott Waites and Jeff Smith. Some players, like Gary Anderson, Robert Thornton and Dave Chisnall have grown better since joining the PDC because they play more and at a higher standard, but they wouldn't without the BDO. They both need each other.

The question is, would the ladies play the same amount for the same money being offered?

If they were offered best of 13 for the final, would they play it?

It would be too long to watch and wouldn't attract the audiences.

I'm also someone who believes if you think you aren't being paid enough, don't do the job, find another one. I've not heard any of the ladies complaining like they do in tennis though, although again i'm prepared to be enlightened.

I think your Wikipedia dig may have something to do with it - yes I checked it because I knew 2 players had hit 90 (I thought, but Oreshkin was actually 89, so I was partially wrong) but I knew it had happened and you've had a couple of digs here in the past couple of days (not at me) about someone obviously being a kid and telling someone they obviously weren't watching when you wrre correcting them. I don't know if it's deliberate, passive aggressive or whether you didn't mean it as it comes across but it does come across as put downs. Maybe you don't mean it that way and I apologise if I mis-read it, but I don't think I have. Never had an issue with you before and don't intend to again - i'm not a huge frequenter of here.

Well i'm glad to hear the BDO is no longer run by dinosaurs, but it does appear to be fading. The standard this year, purely based on what I have seen and not viewing averages etc appeared to be far lower, probably due to many players leaving for the PDC.

I agree it has a place but it's almost like a feeder league. I agree players have got better after leaving the BDO, i'm not sure how much the BDO has had to play in that or whether they just get better over time anyway playing better players

I often wonder if any of the PDC players fancied moving to the BDO - the smaller PDC players may have a title waiting for them over at the BDO - the older ones falling down the rankings? Is it possible for them to do so?

I think Kevin McDine has moved back over to the BDO, and I've been hearing whispers that Colin Lloyd might be going to the BDO too.

the BDO will be around for a very long time. They have a market and are happy with that. Obviously they want to bring in more sponsors and increase prize money but in general they are not looking to compete with the PDC.

They know they cant but they can still have a respectable product.

PDC and the BDO have much better relationship these days. PDC is aiming to push darts to on and get more exposure in new markets while BDO can do there own thing.

regarding the BDO tournament, think its one of the worst I have seen to be honest. some pretty average darts thrown all week.

Funnily enough I've been to the qualifiers. But only as a spectator they are in my home city of Hull.

It is possible to do so, look at Ted. BDO, PDC and back again. Anastasia did that too. As did Tony Excles but we don't talk about him.

I thought a few might have, especially the ones not making money on the PDC. I wondered if the likes of Barrie Bates, Andy Smith, Denis Smith, Dennis Ovens, Alex Roy etc etc may have switched codes, if even half of them are still playing.



I respect the BDO for accepting where they are. I was worried they may be a fading force as times move on and I like the BDO more as a darting family (BDO events are always better to attend in my experience due to the supporters) even if the quality of darts is poorer,

It has been poor this week. Enthralling in places (Veenstra v Smith, Mitchell v McGeeney etc) but certainly hard to watch at times.

Did you see any of the matches this week there was some great ones like the Mitchell Caldwall also there was the Waites Durrant match and the Smith Veestra match was a classic I know the standard is not as good as the PDC but you do get some great matches and great drama which i think the PDC lack

It was radio. I am a radio presenter in Hull and I have done quite a few podcasts on thee darts so interviewed a lot of the BDO lot when in Hull or Bridlington etc. But the old Media Officer for the BDO doesn't work for them now so I don't get offered them like before.

If I ran the BDO I wouldn't be allowing fading has-beens from the PDC back in when they can no longer cut it at that level. Once you've gone you've gone. You'll end up with a glorified veteran's tour.

Almost certainly the last TV commentary from Tony Green tonight I would guess.
In reality he's gone on far too long but apart from Gwynne still doing a few bits and pieces, he was the last of the old school commentators still going, so it's a little bit sad in some ways.

But the beauty of the BDO ( and I guess its ethos now ) is that it is darts for everyone. Look how Barry tried to set up a Womens Championship but soon gave up when Anastasia didn't win it. The BDO welcomed her back as its good for the game.

I'm a darts fan, BDO and PDC the one issue is have with the PDC is that's the noise is like a footy match, which i think is a little too far.

There could be more opening for the BDO as darts is popular and because of the new events now coming and more new sponsors it has to be cheaper than sponsor than a pdc event

I do hope they continue to show the darts on BBC or maybe Channel 4 may, they seems to be getting more like the F1

I also agree with people who say the Women's game does need a little more money in general perhaps 20k would be good, or even more money for the loosing rounds and women's darts are now getting both nicer on the eye and the board! the more they play the better they will get,

anyhow either side if u like darts u like darts and without the BDO where would the PDC be? it has to be asked as its lot more difficult to join the PDC than the BDO

Sad that BDO darts is over for another year . They should at least have two tournaments a year . I'm sure they had more then one before .

BDO darts is a far better format with legs and sets then PDC, plus the whole atmosphere and setup is enjoyable . I've tried to watch PDC a few times but usually give up due to the format and can't stand the crowd and all the noise . I do hope it continues on the BBC because I won't be given money to BT or Sky to watch any sports .

£12k given to the winner of the women's final is a disgrace in this day and age compared to other sports . It's not some pub tournament but they're playing on tv in front of millions .

I enjoyed this tournament just for the fact that I was off work so could watch the afternoon sessions without any trouble. It was nice for a change that they were mentioning the PDC and not acting like it doesn't exist. There's enough darts to go around for both organisations. Long may they continue.



That was always in the back of my mind throughout the week. Will we be able to watch it next year. I hope someone steps in and takes it. I wonder if ITV will show an interest. They could use ITV4 like they do for their excellent French Open tennis coverage. Just a thought, as the thought of BT Sport being the only way to see it is not a nice prospect money wise.

As mentioned earlier. Looks like this was the end for Tony Green. Sad if so as he didn't really bother me at all. Even when he was getting stuff wrong. I also wonder if we'll see Bobby George gracing us with his jewellery again.

I agree, love Tony commentating . Tony is a character with an individual style and voice . Doesn't bother me either if it slips up a few times . Even the ref got the score wrong last night and had to be corrected by Scotty .
I've no idea who the other commentators are as they all now sound like clones of each other . All sports today has lost the great characters that once used to bring so much entertainment to their sports .

I imagine Eurossport may show an interest as they show some PDC events, albeit poorly.

If the 'has-beens' are still good enough to be on the BDO tour then what would it say about the standard of the BDO? You wouldn't and couldn't stop Peter Crouch joining the SPL just because he's not an England international now, so what's the difference in PDC > BDO. Sure, it's good to see upcoming players and I wouldn't really want to watch most of the players I listed, but if they have the chance, why not.

Talking of PDC - BDO, I noticed Justin Pipe at the BDO in the audience cheering on Mitchell. Local boy to me and frustrating to watch. Possibly too high in PDC rankings to come back to BDO but he's not been that great for some while, so I wonder if he'll make the move eventually.

Whatever, it must stay FTA in some capacity or we lose an audience, particularly of younger people who don't have access to Sky/BT.

I would hardly say the BDO 'welcomed' Anastasia back. You only have to have listened to the commentary (from Tony Green especially) and read comments from Anastasia's husband to realise that she's not the most popular woman on the BDO circuit and that many still haven't forgiven her for switching to the PDC and trying her hand on the tour over there. Yes she now plays in the BDO again and on their stage, but the phrase 'welcomed her back' implies that they took her back with open arms and everything was all hunky dory when it was anything of the sort.
