Ten hours straight on a bank holiday with women's darts thrown in, no thanks. Don't think I've watched any sport for 10 hours in a row and certainly not going to start now

got it on skygo because there's a lot on today.
coverage good so far with Mace and Rawlings in comm box first up.
walk on girls and break after 5 legs too.

Gwynne and O'Shea in the comm box too
Could be 'Diamond Dave' territory already (only starting the 3rd game after 1hr 50)
Walk on Men for the Ladies

The set and entrances look a million times more professional than before (albeit clearly modelled on the PDC). Wonder if Dave will sign up to show the Worlds if this gets decent ratings?

Break after 3 legs in the ladies is madness though in a best of 7 legs match

Yes.So far so good coverage wise except maybe no breaks in the early rounds when its a short legs game with lots of games to get through

Room for improvement with the host and interviewer though. These two sound like they won the jobs in a raffle.

Really good coverage and great spotting. Final felt a bit of a damp squid though. Not a great game and crowd dwindling. Far too long a day. The players and fans were knackered. Needs to be over a longer period I feel or shorter matches. But enjoyable

Well i really enjoyed the BDO darts - the presenters seem to get better as they days went on,

I do agree they should have had it over 4 days rather than 3 but other than that it was a good weekend of darts,

Dave did well too - the coverage was much better than i though it was gonna be in fact at least as good as the beeb if not better

Agree with comments regarding Dave coverage - very easy on the eye too!

As Dave are FTA I would hope that they would be an excellent choice to take over coverage of the BDO World Championships. Surely the rights wouldn't be that expensive.

I think they'd have to put a lot more thought in to a two week tournament rather than a showcase weekend event.

Would that amount of distrucption to their usualy fan base, which I realise is many repeats, destroy their viewership over the New Year period?

The BDO Worlds is one week and its after New Year so the schedules don't tend to show new shows etc. Plus a lot is afternoon. See no reason why it wouldn't work on Dave.

Channel 4 steps up to the oche and becomes the terrestrial home of BDO Darts

Channel 4 and the British Darts Organisation agree two-year deal to broadcast the Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships

Channel 4 has today announced a two-year deal with the British Darts Organisation that will see the broadcaster become the new terrestrial home of the BDO World Darts Championship from 2017-2018.

From January 2017 Channel 4 will broadcast live from Lakeside during the afternoon sessions of the men’s and women’s championships in addition to one of the semi-finals and the Women’s Final. All evening sessions will be aired on BT Sport alongside one of the semi-finals. The Men’s Final will air on both Channel 4 and BT.
All of the coverage from the Championships will be broadcast free-to-air on Channel 4 - with live coverage also available throughout the Championships on BT Sport.

Stephen Lyle, Commissioning Editor, Sport at Channel 4 said: “We are delighted to agree this deal which sees Channel 4 become the home of BDO Darts on terrestrial TV, adding another popular sport to our schedules and keeping it free-to-air for fans. The darts is a British sporting institution and we look forward to bringing our unique Channel 4 approach to coverage of the Championships.”

Sue Williams, Chairman of the BDO, said: “We took considerable care in selecting our broadcast partner and we are highly delighted that Channel 4 is that partner. Through its channels and BT Sport, all the sessions will be shown live with additional highlights shows and innovative content online. We were particularly pleased with Channel 4’s fresh approach and new ideas and the track record they have for this with other sports in their portfolio. We believe this will appeal to a broader demographic of viewers.

“This is an excellent partnership for the BDO, both commercially and in terms of the right strategic partner to further strengthen BDO darts.”

Further details on Channel 4’s coverage and presenting line up for the 2017 BDO World Darts Championship will be announced in due course.

Channel 4 has a track record for innovative coverage of major sporting events, which most recently includes the FIA Formula One World Championship™, its BAFTA-winning coverage of the 2012 Paralympic Games, and its BAFTA-winning cricket coverage. In 2016, Channel 4 will also broadcast the Rio Paralympic Games and 90 days of live racing coverage including The Grand National, Royal Ascot and The Derby.

”

So all coverage will be shown (not live), not just a highlights package?

The day sessions will be shown live by 4. The evening sessions by BT and I assume that 4 will show highlights of the evening sessions on the website or something? No idea how exactly it will work

Wouldn't evening sessions on 4 be the bigger ratings winner?
