So even greater opportunity for people to cry "FIX". And a possibility of a tie that has to be scored differently (and therefore unfairly) should a couple make a mistake on the night and they are within a point of another couple (if that makes sense). And I guess even more scope for undermarking & overmarking in order to not produce a tie.

Very artificial.

The ties are a fix sometimes as it means those scored below are at greater risk of bottom two depending on the public vote. When some dances ties there are differences in the marks awarded that can be taken into account. When one analyses the judges' scores there are big inconsistencies when comparing the dances in the night. By not permitting a tie the judges need to think more carefully about who gets an 8, 9 or 10 and similarly about awarding a 4.

Just have them rank the tied scores for separate places on the leaderboard. It's not like they mark with any thought anyway - according to our Head Judge with 6 couples left, 5 of them were worthy of the same mark. He couldn't differentiate between Helen/Georgia/Kellie/Katie/Anita - I mean really?

Plus, if you can't decide and leave it up to the voters to do your job for you - don't get grumpy when they do it in a way you disagree with.

My point still stands.

This pretty much.

Ties may not be popular with some, but they do mean that there is more versatility if for example TPTB wanted to arrange the leaderboard to achieve certain aims.

I think the current system is just what TPTB want.

The BBC will never release the viewing figures, OFCOM has deemed them to be commercially sensitive information for BT, who provide the service.

I also don't agree with only the public having a vote at semi-final level, it's rare that the finalists aren't the best dancers. The judges role throughout the series is supposedly to guide the viewer as to who performed the best, why should that be any different in the semi final? Even in the final they still "judge" even though it is only the public which decides.

Why does he have to? I can equally like two different peoples' performances or even more than one or two and vote accordingly, why can't the judges' do the same?

Personally, I'd get rid of the public vote in the semi final and final. People can get the finalists they want but the judges pick the winner. Giving the judges more power might add scruples to their opinion. With great power comes great etc. Maybe I should post this instead on the Unpopular Opinions thread
