Hmmm from Eastenders I think Carol Jackson leaving was a big loss (in terms of the actress acting ability)

From Emmerdale Val Pollard is without question a HUGE loss.

Definitely Valerie Pollard. I've read that it was the actresses idea to leave Emmerdale but I doubt she wanted to be killed off. This has been a huge misstep by the producers to permantley lose such a funny and talented actress. Especially after taking the time and sensitivity of introducing the HIV storyline. Val was a cornerstone of that village and will be sorely missed.

Agree, Val Pollard. I laugh a lot less at Emmerdale now she's gone. Legend.

Also miss Alicia and Ruby, and will miss Edna.

Yes Carol. I also missed Kat when she left. I'm sorry that Lola, Aleks and Charlie were axed. I prefered them to many other characters in the show.

Of the soaps I watch, Carol Jackson, Charlie Cotton and Aleks Shirovs in EE. Lindsey Coulson is/was the single best actress on the show. Glad they've kept the door open for a future return. With Charlie and Aleks they were thrown on the scrapheap by lazy writers who refused to accept the damage done. They started off so well in 2014. Aleks was quickly written out, and Charlie was badly hurt with the Roxy affair and then Vincent coming in. At least they've kept him alive.

On HO, it has easily been Porsche McQueen and Charles S'avage. They were two of the few bright parts of the soap which just keeps getting worse, save for a few decent characters/plots.

Ruby in ED, she was one of the few ' normal' characters in the programme; I think it needs more of them.
Also with the sad death of Shirley Stelfox I will miss Edna.

I seriously refuse to get over the death of Val. She was brilliant. She was the camp aunt I wish I had. I will forever mourn her.

In terms of those who didn't die, I have missed Kat. I loved Carol but I don't miss her as much as I thought I would. Mainly because i was so satisfied that Carol put herself first and is travelling around on a mo-ped somewhere, I can't help but feel she got the send off she deserved.

All soaps have lost brilliant strong women. Carol in EE, Val in ED, Deirdre in CS - all three under different circumstances too!

Two legendary characters who'll sadly never grace our screens again.

Completely agree with you on Eastenders - terrible writing led to some really lazy decisions.

I think Corrie felt the double loss of Peter Barlow and Rob, hence Rob's return to plot from behind bars. But that has a limited potential as a storyline so they'll need to introduce some decent "bad boys" (hate that description) next year.

Missed. Coronation St: the show had a great loss in Deidre Barlow.
Emmerdale: had a great loss in Edna Birch.

Not missed: Cornation St: the joke gangsta, Callum.
Emmerdale: the vile character, Val Pollard.

There's quite a few ED characters that I will miss from this year; Val, Edna, Betty and Katie.
In Corrie I miss Deirdre and Julie.

Technically he didn't leave but he left in late 2014 and the show has been crap ever since, Peter Barlow. The show is more interesting when he's around.
