After successfully killing Dan Sullivan, Zeb begins to settle into life at Albert Square. Ricky Butcher is still working for him, unaware that Zeb is responsible for Sullivan's untimely demise. Zeb announces to Ricky that he's organising a rave to take place outside of Walford, and he wants Ricky to supply the drugs. Again, Ricky refuses to do it, and tells Zeb that he doesn't want to go to prison. Zeb attempts to compromise with Ricky, but he puts his foot down and tells Zeb that he's going too far with it, and that there's no way he's working for a Drug baron. Furious with Ricky's insubordination, Zeb orders Ricky's son, Liam, to be kidnapped. Liam is abducted a few hours after Ricky and Zeb's confrontation, and a panicking Ricky works out that Zeb's behind it all. He finds Zeb drinking in the Vic and lunges for him, only to be held back by Alfie Moon and Martin Fowler. Zeb laughs at Ricky and tells him that he's got nothing to do with it, but Ricky refuses to believe it, and threatens to ring the police.
Meanwhile, Liam is stripped naked, tied to a chair and blindfolded. He's scared, and he knows that there's a chance he could be killed. Zeb's thugs taunt him, telling him that he's pathetic and that when Zeb comes back, he's going to slit his throat. Zeb arrives at the location, which is revealed to be an abandoned Chocolate factory, and takes Liam's blindfold off. Once he realises that Zeb abducted him, Liam screams and hollers, shouting that Ricky's gonna kill him. But Zeb being Zeb, refuses to listen, and whips out a large knife out of his pocket. He walks towards Liam, a maniacal glee in his eyes, and laughs creepily. He then calls Ricky, telling him to come to the chocolate factory and watch his son cough up blood. Ricky and Ian Beale drive down to the factory, and find Liam in tears, naked, and with cuts all over his naked body. Ricky and Ian drive him to the hospital, where it's revealed that he was tortured numerous times. A furious Ricky again confronts Zeb, and the evil gangster provokes Ricky into punching him, which he does. Zeb falls to the ground, and after Ricky storms off, he makes a immediate phone call.
The next day, Ricky comes home from work to find his flat completely trashed, the bathtub over-flowing, and the Windows smashed. A anxious Liam, who was incredibly shaken by his abduction, screams loudly when he sees Zeb walking towards him in the square. He runs off, with a sadistic Zeb in hot pursuit. Zeb corners him outside the Queen Vic, and Ricky finds them and engages in a stand off with Zeb. The wily gangster makes a deal with Ricky: If he continues to work for him, he'll leave Liam alone, but if he refuses to, then Liam will be buried on Wimbledon Common. Having no choice, Ricky accepts Zeb's offer of a full-time job.
At the Rave, Ricky acts as the drug dealer, supplying Ecstacy tablets to revellers. However, it all goes wrong when the police storm the rave and begin searching for drugs. Ricky goes AWOL from the rave, much to the fury of Zeb, who thinks that Ricky actually tipped them off. Zeb responds by hiring a thug to mug Carol Jackson in broad daylight, and Carol is not only mugged, but severely beaten as well. The mugger is chased off by Fatboy and Max Branning, but she's severely shaken up by the whole thing. Then, Ricky finally crosses the line when he catches Zeb having sex with a underage girl, and reports it. Zeb is taken in for questioning, but is released due to lack of evidence. Zeb loses patience with Ricky, and plots revenge.
A few days later, Carol's car is stolen and crushed. Then, Max Branning is ambushed by one of Zeb's thugs, who throws acid in his face. Max is immediately rushed to hospital, and Zeb texts Ricky, hinting that he was behind it. The final straw for Ricky occurs when Liam is gunned down by a car driver with a Machete as he's walking out of the kebab shop, and upon being informed, Ricky finally loses it! He calls Zeb, screaming abuse down the phone and making all sorts of threats. Zeb calms him down and orders him to meet him at Wimbledon Common at 10:00 that evening.
That night, Ricky arrives at the Common and searches for Zeb, who's nowhere to be seen. He searches for Zeb high and low across the common, and finds him by a pond, looking cold and calculating. When Ricky confronts Zeb about Liam, Zeb confesses to killing Dan Sullivan, and claims he did it for Ricky. A horrified Ricky struggles to come to terms with what Zeb's just told him, and attempts to run away. However, Zeb rugby-tackles him to the ground, before knocking him out with some M99.
Ricky wakes up to find himself tied up, gagged, shirtless and tied to a chair. Zeb is stood over him, smiling like the Cheshire Cat. A scared Ricky begs Zeb for forgiveness, but Zeb doesn't want to hear it anymore, and taunts Ricky by hinting that he may have hired someone to hurt his daughter Tiffany. When Ricky tries to reason with him, Zeb grows tired of his begging and whacks Ricky with a Baseball Bat, knocking him out. He then unties a unconscious Ricky, places him on a table, before grabbing a large Stanley knife out of his jacket and repeatedly cutting his throat over and over and over again. There's blood everywhere, and Zeb finishes him off by placing a plastic bag over his head, grabbing a Black and Decker power drill from out of nowhere and drilling three massive holes in the paper bag. Blood spills everywhere, and a minute or two later, the bag is taken off and it's revealed that Zeb gorged out Ricky's eyeballs with the drill, before drilling a hole in his chest and removing his Liver, thus killing him. He buries Ricky's body in the common, before getting in his car and driving off into the night.
