If Aidan Turner agreed to do the show I guarantee they would be quite happy to overlook the level of ballroom and latin dancing in his past as long as he agreed to get his tits out every week.

The main thing with previous dance training is to be up front about it - which this year's contestants were - so the viewers can take it into consideration.

Don't mind in future years if there are two or three with dance training or experience - as long as we know about it. But there were too many this year - 5 is too much!

(I liked Jay back then for his local charity work - but didn't think he'd win.)”

Re Jay, it was pretty obvious right from the off, that he had not had any ballroom/latin training. I agree that it would be a poorer show if none of the celebs had any dance background, its good to have a mix. Personally I always prefer to watch those that have danced, as they will undoubtedly pick up technique and routines quicker, and reach a ( normally) higher standard quicker.

a celeb with a ballroom and latin background would be a step too far imo - where would the line be drawn ?? Aiden danced ballroom and latin for about 10 years and he represented Ireland a far cry from Sat morning dance classes and totally wrong - a bit of dance knowledge ok but anyone with ballroom and latin knowledge or college dance training should be excluded

We can but dream of Aidan Turner doing Strictly. I've been a fan of his since the early days of Being Human and he is an incredibly private person. I've been part of a couple of fan sites/FB pages and follow some Twitter feeds about him and all the info we have about him was somewhat difficult to get it. Fans "communicate" with him sometimes via his girlfriend Twitter - she's really nice - because he doesn't have Twitter/FB or nothing of the sort.

And I've seen him in person. I froze on the spot and couldn't get myself together to go after him and talk to him. He's got that sort of power, he IS sex on legs!

Louis Smith wasn't. Also fortunately, Kara Tointon was an excellent dancer so when she won - no problem. However, the dancing seemed hardly relevant to those who were in Disney mode, about the Artem/ Kara romance. Had she danced like a dead halibut, she might still have won.

An ideal candidate for the ' Ooh !' votes would be actor Aidan Turner. Ten years of ballroom and Latin training and competitions but not as an adult. SCD won't be able to get him though. I'd go ' Ooh' as well but as he'd be able to dance - fair enough. ..although I'd vote for the best dancer rather than automatically, for an ' Ooh' contestant.

So although I don't much like to see ringers, maybe it's necessary, to prevent someone winning in future who can't dance for toffee but he looks, good.

Ideally, no one with previous dance training. Realistically, some now have to I think or we could end up with a winner who makes the show look completely daft.”

Sounds like a LOT of double standards here... and I think someone who's done latin and ballroom dancing for 10 years is a step too far!!! Also can't agree with the statements about women picking out who they fancy in week 1, sure a few might, but to give Jay & Harry (and Louis!) some credit - they won over plenty more people over the course of the show. I think I may have groaned at Jay being announced as I thought, and still think, The Wanted are cack - but what a dancer and what a guy!

THAT'S not a problem My ovaries would go for Gleb but I'd happily see them both.

I would like a good looking, well mannered, charismatic, amazing dancer man between 25 and 45. Preferably single.

I am shallow!

Honestly, I just would like a good mix of abilities, characters and backgrounds.

A well balanced cast
I don’t watch soaps but I guess you have to have a soap star from both BBC and ITV.
At least two sports people each series
Two proper luvvies, not in soaps
A news presenter
A weather person
Some other form of presenter
Two singers/musicians
A gardener cook, or other specialist presenter
A politician - there are more likeable and dance-talented ones than we have had so far
Someone who doesn’t fall into any of the normal categories, maybe a business person or a foreigner. I’d like to see an overseas person in each season but I’m not sure the British public will support them. (viz. Martina Hingis). Maybe if you got someone with real appeal the Brits would vote for them (i.e. Kylie, Roger Federer)

That makes fourteen, the right number in my opinion

Of course it helped that she was also a wonderful dancer who improved almost every week!!

As regards what type of celebs do I want/not want to see I would love them to get someone from a 'real' band as opposed to just boyband/girlband members!! My choice (as I have said in another thread) would be someone like Matt Bellamy from Muse, unlikely I know but I would love to see it happen”

Unlikely is an understatement! Matt Bellamy and his band are about as far away from the world of Strictly as it's possible to get. They may as well be in a different universe.

If they are going to get a member of a 'real' band then I think someone like Ricky Wilson would be more realistic. In the early days of the Kaisers I would have said it would have been very unlikely, but now with him being on the Voice and hosting TV shows, I can actually imagine him doing Strictly. They could partner Ricky with Jo, I think that would work really well.

Ooh, Matt Bellamy - I'd have no problem with getting the OH to watch then 😀
Ricky Wilson!!! I only started watching the Voice for Ricky , I had no time for it before - and judging by my levels of over-investedness this year ( total Jaliona obsession) I think normal life would be suspended for the whole season if he were to do Strictly. Please let this happen - and with Aliona retired, Jo deserves a ringer, let her have him 😀

I could do without any politicians on the show, just ....yuck.
And no more gymnasts! Don't get me wrong, I love gymnastics, I went to Glasgow last year to see the world championships. Don't want to see it on strictly. A standing back somersault is very impressive......it's not dancing.

Aidan Turner can do ballroom and Latin dance as well. OMG.
Shame that he sounds way overqualified to be a contestant. I don't suppose the producers would consider replacing Anton with him?
He's probably going to be busy playing the next James Bond soon, hopefully!

No celebs injured before the show starts, would be a good start.

I don't care how media savvy a celeb might be because that's just a sign of the times (and more power to their elbow), but Jay has over 900k twitter followers. How could any other celeb this year compete with that kind of fan base? BTW Harry Judd has over 800k twitter followers - same thing applies. Of course, not all are even eligible to vote, but a huge number of their followers are tech-savvy and well able to find ways to vote using multiple accounts. And they are fans in the true sense of the word - fanatics. So although a big name might be good for the show in one way, it ruins it in others. I don't know what the answer is though.

It does make me smile in a sad way when posters make suggestions about the various backgrounds of the celebs that could take part. It makes me realise how far away from the early series the show has moved. The likes of Anita, Carol, Daniel, Iwan and Jeremy were the norm when the show first started and somebody like Georgia would have been the big ringer - and might have won or been pipped at the post by the journey contestant. Those were the days. ”

BIB1: Peter Andre has 3.45m Twitter followers. Didn't help him.

And the Jeremy Vine Show gets approx 7m listeners a week.

BIB2: Jill Halfpenny wasn't pipped.

Really? My favourite contestants over the years have been the ones I'd never heard of beforehand: Kara, Alesha, Jay, Anita Rani, Chelsee Healey, Scott Maslen, Chris Hollins, Gethin Jones.

The ones I make a cup of tea during have always been ones I knew all too well- Widdy, Russell Grant, Vanessa Feltz, Edwina Currie, Esther Rantzen, Jason Donovan, Austin Healey.

Fame is over-rated.

A year where all the contestants stand a realistic chance of doing well and its not obvious who the front runners are and who is behind the rest of the pack

We could use an academic (of sorts), preferably one who might have a modicum of ability (so not David Starkey ):

- a historian like Suzannah Lipscomb, Lucy Worsley, or Janina Ramirez

- a scientist like Brian Cox, or Jon Tickle

- a Susie Dent, like Susie Dent ()
