Even though there is still one day to go before 2015 is behind us I thought I'd be the one to give you all 2016's edition of the weight loss thread.

Enjoy, and have a happy 2016!

Last of the Christmas food has been eaten or dumped, and most of the booze has been drunk. Back on track tomorrow, I suppose I'll have to step on the scales to see what damage I've done this Chistmas.

Goal for 2016, about 2 stone (ish).

I was 19+ stone at the start of 2015. I managed to get down to 16st 10lb in June but then had a few lapses.

I'm 17st 3lb this morning and intend to start up the regime again. My ideal BMI would realistically be 12st 6lb - but if I can finish the year around 14st i'll be happy.

My main struggle is maintaining an exercise regime. I've tried everything over the years and I've hated it all: from the gym, to excercise dvds, to walking, to running, swimming, team sports. I'm always finding excuses not to do it. Talking of which - I should be getting ready for the gym rather than writing this post . . . . .

I've got weight to lose. I love skating and would love to find a pal to go skating with, but sadly, no such luck here!

I was doing really well before the wedding but i haven't been so great since but I have changed gyms. I need to weigh myself but I think I'm definitely back into the 13 stone bracket again. The gym I am now at has a swimming pool which I use. I love swimming, although I'm not great at it I do an hour most days, normally before work and I love it. Food wise I have the biggest problem with. Despite it being Christmas I wasnt too bad. I've been shopping and got loads of fresh produce and I have a good plan to follow. I've started using my fitness pal app again having used it previously.

Here we go again...

In 2015 I started really well for the first few months, had a long lapse over the summer followed by a good period towards the end of the year then Christmas came along to ruin a lot of the good work. Overall, I finished the year only a few pounds less than I started it.

I had a good ticking off from my doctor a few over being overweight with high bloods pressure, cholesterol and being a diabetes risk and that did make a difference for a while but those old bad habits always come back. I'm next due a check-up in March and I really need to get my figures down.

I'm due to see the GP about a health issue that I'm pretty sure has been caused by diet and lifestyle. I've already made some changes. Heavens I even had a 'dry' New Year!
It's been a massive boost to my good intentions but best not leave it till damage becomes apparent.

I'm back at the exercise this year though it's a sign of how well I did last time that I'm only looking at losing 0.5-1 stone this time. In 2013-early 2014 I managed to lose 29cm from around my waist. Since then I've added 4cm so nothing major but enough to kickstart me into action for a few months. I went from size 44 trousers to size 34 but never quite managed to get down to 32s. This is the year I'll get into those 32s and hopefully before Easter.

I'd like to lose about 4 stones in 2016 - today I've been trying to finish the last of the Christmas snacks before starting tomorrow.

So far I've signed up for a dance class and had to pay in advance so I'll have to go each week to make sure I'm not just wasting money!

Started at 19st exactly the beginning of last year and was down to 15st 8lbs by August. The weight loss had slowed down by this point but was staying fairly steady.
Had a relationship breakup and then my routine went to pot which led me to start slowly putting weight back on.

Peaked at 16st 10lbs just after Xmas and started to get back in to my routine for New Year.

Was a bit disappointing to lose the momentum from early last year but on the positive side I kept over 2st off.

Currently 16st 6.8lbs and aiming for my target of last year which was 12st. Back to work tomorrow and planning on walking in. Have also been trying to get back into a routine to get a good nights sleep by getting to bed at a reasonable time and using my sleep app.

Well you did better than me anyway Steve - by about half a stone If you've lost 3.2lb since Xmas day though you've done well. I have a trip on 28 January and am hoping to get back down to 16st 10lb by then.

I also had a family death to deal with in May with was very difficult, though ironically my weight gain came after I started training for a walking challenge with a friend. I was spending so much time walking that I barely went to the gym and my diet went to pot as the walking was leaving me extremely hunger. I naively believed that walking 30 miles a week (which I was) as well as the odd gym session would let me eat as much as I wanted but the weight came back on. I was half a stone heavier when I took the challenge in September than when I started training.

It's my goal as well to lose weight this year and stick by doing it and not just wishing it.
The booze simply has to go. I know I don't over eat (perhaps at the wrong times) and I'm not big on chocolate and sweet things. So cut down on drinking and take some regular exercise I am hoping will be enough.

Failed at this last year - did well for a few months but had a hard time at work including being put in danger of redundancy so didn't care what I ate. I even started binge eating at one point

Hoping to do better this year - I don't want to lose too much weight but I need to eat healthier food, cut down a lot on junk food and get more exercise.

Three days in and I feel utterly miserable. I love bread, potatoes, sausages, cheese, chocolate... not this healthy crap; I feel like throwing up after a few bites; it all tastes disgusting

I've been going to the gym for about 18 months now and have done well, but my diet has always been crap but when I try to change it, it makes me feel like this

I'm not starving myself, but denying myself some toast, or stopping myself from reaching for a biscuit with a cuppa is getting me down. I know people say don't deny, it's a lifestyle change etc. but I know if I grab a biscuit or two now, then it's a slippery slope and by next week, I'll be eating half a pack again and back to my old ways. I have about a stone and half to go before I reach my 'ideal' weight, but it's been lingering at the same number now for ages; hence trying to change my eating habits instead of focusing purely on exercise.

I love to snack, and thought I'd find this the hardest part, but it's actually been the easiest. Replacing my usual unhealthy snacks with yoghurts, some fruit, nuts, even pickled onions... it's kept the cravings at bay - it's the meals I'm hating.

Anyone got any advice? Is it just a matter of trying different things? Will my tastebuds 'improve' and start to like this stuff if I force myself to eat it? I bought so much variety last week, lots of healthy, new foods that I've never tried, and I've honestly hated them all thus far. Individually and thrown into a meal, tastes vile either way. Absolute waste of money.

Here we go again, get weighed tomorrow night I need to lose around 7 stone in total. Have to stick to it properly this year though as I am getting married next year, and don't want to be fat in my wedding dress.

Same here. I don't eat much crap and I don't have a sweet tooth. I could do better with portion control and cut down on those filling carbs (went food shopping today and deliberately didn't go anywhere near the bread aisle) but otherwise my diet isn't that bad. Where I go wrong is liking beer too much and being allergic to an form of exercise.

Currently at 15st 5lbs and the lowest I've been in recent years is 14st with a maximum of 16st 2lb (going over 16st frightened the life out of me). Ideally I'd like to get down to 12-12.5 st but for this year I'd settle for being consistently below 14 st.

I think we all respond to these things differently and what works for some doesn't for others. I don't know many people who have been able to successfully change life long dietary habits; i'm sure there are people but it's been my experience that those who do lose weight are usually those that were fine for most their lives and put on weight suddenly for whatever reason.

Saying that, your tastebuds definitely will change; this initial period is just getting over the physical/chemical dependency your body has for certain types of foods. I'm not a great example but my own advice is to not give up everything in one go, do it in stages of a week at a time. So give up chocolate first, then fatty foods, then the remaining sweets/biscuits. Replace them with other things that have sweetness/calories but not the sugar and fat. My tip is to buy dried mixed fruit, those 'go-ahead' biscuit things and ice lollies. Eventually you will need to cut out most of these snacks as well but do it in stages.

I replaced toast with several healthy cereals options which has been fine, so I shouldn't have a problem keeping that up.
I'm really bad at snacking, it's definitely my downfall, but I've surprised myself with how easy it's been to replace the sugary treats, so that's something I feel positive about being able to keep up, too.

Lunch and dinner though has been awful the last three days, and bar snacking on a bit of fruit, last night I decided not to have any dinner because I just couldn't face anymore vile foods, and I've binned all three lunches after a few mouthfuls... which isn't helping as then I start to crave all sorts of things, and the healthy snacks only hold off the temptations for so long.

I think I'll try to put your idea into practice. If I stick with the cereal and healthy snacking, then it's a step in the right direction, so even if I revert back to my usual meals for lunch and dinner, hopefully I can start to replace them with healthier meals I do actually like, if and when I find some...

Have you thought of "have a go" ice hockey.

They are always looking for people, and it is very friendly. (non violent for beginners)

What are you having for lunch and dinner that you hate so much? Apart from things like stuff crust pizza/cheese burgers/deep fried chicken etc, you can eat pretty much anything as part of a balanced diet as long as you do it in moderation. A classic healthy dinner is chicken breast, potatoes and vegetables, but there's a wide range of stuff that would be fine - spag bol, pasta, stir fry, even oven fish and chips with peas isn't the worst dinner. It's all about cooking in a healthy way, reducing the portions and cutting out the unnecessary stuff. For example, if you make spag bol then don't have any parmesan on top and leave out the garlic bread. Even better, use quorn instead of real mince, you will barely notice the difference.

Why aren't you eating toast for example? Beans on toast is an excellent healthy breakfast.

may as well jump on this while its active

Weighed in yesterday at 85kg, want to drop down to around 70kg like I was 2 years ago when I left for travelling. Came back and had no motivation however recently started a new job and seems to have come back so hoping I can get back into the gym like I was.

Went gym this morning before work and did a 20mins HIIT session followed by some weights. Going to try and do this 4 times a week but most importantly is going to be eating a lot more sensibly - not going to be stupid and restrict myself to just simple things like chicken and veg but I won't be eating cr4p like I usually do!

Ooh this is exciting!
Weighed yesterday at 94kg - so 14.8 stone. I was 11.5 when I started uni (4 years ago), so I'd like to get back there! I'm cutting booze down to one day a week (I work in a company where it's difficult to not go out for drinks!), joined the gym (I'm doing a swim in a relay triathlon in June so if that's not motivation I don't know what is!) and changed my eating habits and not allowing bad foods in the house - the effort to go out and buy them will be enough.

problem is, I'm so hungry! Salad instead of bread for lunch - doesn't fill me up at all...

Any tips on good snacks? I'd like to cut them out altogether eventually, but for the time being I have a bag of satsumas!

I joined this thread last January and didnt really feel as I was doing anything towards losing weight. In September I got weighed at the doctors and was 16st 2! 🙈 Which finally prompted me to do something, since then I have lost just over 2 stone and am now an even 14st. I feel like I've finally proved to myself that going on a diet doesn't necessarily mean giving up everything I love but rather having them as a treat or in moderation (which also imo allows me to enjoy it more). I've also not had to spend hours a week at the gym as feared. Just a couple of exercise classes combined with walking part way to work seems to work well.

My goal for this year is to just continue with what I am doing. I would like to lose another stone before a family holiday in March and a holiday with friends in May but as long as I keep on losing weight I don't really care.

blueisthecolour is right.
If you cut out everything you like and try to eat only what is considered healthy it will make you miserable and you're unlikely to stick to it.
Portion control, eating certain things in moderation and exercise allows you to still eat the things you like as well as getting the weight off.

I need to lose 8 stone in total, but want to lose 3 stone this year.

However, I have completely forgotten the name of the calorie app I use online to track my calories, exercise and intake. Its not myfitnesspal as I couldnt get on with that

Its been removed from my favourites which seem to update automatically dependent on how often you use something which is really annoying.
