New Corrie opening titles in 2016?
Now that the new Corrie set is in full flow, I was thinking I would absolutely love Kate Oates to order some new opening titles to signify her changes to the show and a new era for it.
I would like the new titles to use CGI to show us the Street in Weatherfield's wider setting, like they did in the previous titles (see here or watch here). They could begin with a view of the Street from above, with surrounding houses behind added in post using effects. We could see other nice shots of the ginnels, Rosamund Street and more. And perhaps even they could show us Weatherfield in wider Manchester as they did in the live episode in 2010 (see here). Of course we would need the traditional cat and tram going across the viaduct! ![]() Obviously the titles are not as important as overhauling the show narratively and in terms of tone, but I am optimistic Kate will really look at every character group and the pacing of the show and restore the 'Corrie magic' to the episodes. I just feel a new set of titles really showing off that great new set and using CGI to offer a couple of shots of the Street in its fictional Weatherfield / Manchester setting, would be a great thing. The limitations of the set are diminished since it's been rebuilt but it would be great to reinstate the 'illusion' of the houses behind the street and more in the opening titles. On the topic of the theme tune I would also like it to be slightly reworked to be more like the pre-2010 theme (listen here). The theme used since 2010 is a bit more parpy and hasn't got the pathos of the previous theme. My rough idea for the opening titles (these would be proper new shots obviously): Shot 1 - Wide shot of Weatherfield in Manchester (would be in daytime obviously) Shot 2 - Shot of Street with rows of houses behind (and Weatherfield Wayfarer bus or milk float?) Shot 3 - Shot of Ginnels with ginger cat! Shot 4 - Shot of view towards Audrey's (better angle than this pic) Shot 5 - Shot of Rosamund Street, with Roy's Rolls (better angle than this pic) Final Shot from Rovers end of Street with tram (again, better angle) Would look fab I think! |

They could even have Callum escaping from the manhole in the titles. You'd like that.

A new title sequence occurred in 1960, 1964, 1969, 1975, 1976, 1990, 2002 and the latest in 2010 when the programme went HD.
The ITV logo was added in 2013 and a slight amendment in 2014 after they moved to Media City and incorporated some new shots. As they've used the current sequence since 2010 it could be time for a new one, but wouldn't they have been more likely to do it when they moved to Media City than now. |

And we've seen them put the Street in a wider setting using CGI in the pre-2010 titles (rows of houses behind) and the 2010 live episode (views from both ends of Street showing Manchester and other landmarks like the Red Rec). Would love to see this in some new titles, beautifully shot and crafted and creating the illusion Coronation Street really exists in Manchester!

The current title sequence is one of the best they've ever done, and I don't expect to see it go anytime soon. They only tend to create a new one when the format of the show changes (HD, widescreen, etc), and as already mentioned they replaced some shots when they moved to MediaCity so they must be happy with it.
Personally, I love the blurry effect. The shots are full of activity and they help to draw the eye to something really mundane in the foreground. That and the slow-mo make the street seem like something from a half-remembered memory, setting the tone perfectly. It never occurred to me that we don't see Rosamund Street or Victoria Street in it, but they're just add-ons to the set anyway. The 2002 sequence was the worst one. The street looks fake and dull in it. |

I just feel like they could reach a happy medium of using shallow depth of field/slow-mo and wide shots with 2015 CGI to do a really stunning set of titles which both show the street in its wider setting and hone in on the Street itself. There's no reason it would look "fake or dull" especially with the new set and advancements in CGI. |

With KO as the new producer, the new title sequence in probably going to have big skyscrapers and police cars in it.

I hate the current titles, and I have done since day one -- totally blurred, out of focus and rubbish. They are in dire need of updating.

With all the problems Corrie has at the moment updating the titles should be the last thing on Kate Oates mind.

As said in OP fixing the stories, tone and pace of the show is number 1 priority but it's not like ordering new titles would be a hugely distracting task... |

Hoping Kate Oates is considering this.
Think of how amazing modern CGI could make wider Weatherfield look, considering older efforts produced: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xmOA0bzoqz...athy+map+2.png http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Fwv72jrioc...icture+One.png http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QzS9pyu-qn...rfield+map.png Really would be amazing to see the new outdoor set with surrounding streets CGI'd in as an establishing shot for new opening titles. And bring back the old music, had so much more punch than the post-2010 rearrangement!! PS: Take a look at this website which shows interactively how they did the CGI overhead shots for the Tram Crash week http://www.creativeinvasion.com/port...ity_wide.html# |

Not a complete revamp of the titles, that's not really needed, but maybe take out a few shots and add new ones in, such as Nicks Bistro being replaced with the current one, as the one in the titles is before the revamp.
If there is any soap that needs to change its titles it is Emmerdale. The sets that sweep through in the opening titles look nothing like they do now after all of the fires, sieges and stunts that destroyed then, especially Home Farm and The Woolpack. |

One of the component scenes should be Phelan oiling himself up for a hard days graft.
