Already a 'hater,' 'idiot' and 'a troll' for not liking it. I may have been in another board, but I'm most certainly still on Digital Spy

I thought Sherlock was good... wish series 9 was on at-least that level, though heaven sent was good, while ignoring the fact the confessional dial made no sense and not being sold on the fact that the Doctor cared so much about Clara..

I really liked Series 9 *and* the Sherlock special.

That's allowed, isn't it?

I liked both, but preferred Series 9!

That Sherlock episode was all a bit timey-wimey really

No it isn't. Please leave the forums on the account of enjoying the things we are on here to talk about. Where's your negativity man.

Ummm....okay. I hate racism, tyranny and cruelty...and burnt toast, although with burnt toast it's probably more 'am a bit annoyed by....' as I can just throw it out, really.

Bus stations ain't that bad, though. Think Sylvester's Doctor was exaggerating a bit there.
Unless your bus doesn't turn up. and it's raining. and you have to find a Taxi rank. Not sure whether you've got enough cash to get you home. Soaking. I'd hate that.

Adric and Melanie? I would rather let a cup of tea go cold than spend time with them so I guess it's kind of hatred. :P

Poor Adric, he had his good moments, Mel on the other hand....

I felt season 9 was the worst since Moffat took over - dreary, depressing, funless and self-indulgent. I am hoping the new companion brightens the show again and brings some joy and comedy back. Capaldi can certainly do comedy and I like his Doctor much more when he's surrounded by people having fun and he's struggling to understand.

I don't know who the two new writers are, but I believe they are industry 'names' so probably are just guesting. Perhaps Steven Fry will finally deliver his script!”

I felt the same about Series 9 it felt kinda depressing

One of the problems with S9 is they failed to integrate the comedy well into the scripts, it wasn't a problem that they took a darker tone but they'll unable to pull it off with great success.

I felt the Missy and Clara stuff was funny. Who didn't laugh when Clara was pushed down the hole?

As was the Doctor's cue cards, hatred of puns and whole lame tank jokes.

If you think back to Classic Who you didn't get comedy in the way that Tennant/Smith did in the New Who. Although Tennant's gurning got a bit annoying.

So it seems confirmed that there will be no full series in 2016 does it ? So perhaps the scenario will be Christmas special leading into a full series early 2017. But didn't SM ask for the show to be moved to an Autumn time slot so that would mean with the exception of a Christmas special almost 2 years before a new series will be shown. The programme deserves better than that. It needs to be kept in the public eye or apart from die hard fans, the show will drop out of public interest and may just be quietly dropped by the BBC. I do hope I am wrong.

Agreed. Too much trying to be silly at every opportunity for me, not enough naturally implemented comedic moments like the Second Doctor and Jamie's buddy moments or the Third Doctor and the Brigadier's rivalry. It was often like the Graham Williams era where the "humour" often outweighed the actual threat. I'm glad they've toned down the more forced humour since Capaldi came in, the more serious tone is an improvement in my opinion.

Adric was a good concept poorly executed, who did have some good developments while he was on the show. Melanie probably got the show cancelled a few years earlier than it would have been. :P

Which is a poor state of affairs from the production team responsible for making DW that they can't handle producing 13 episodes a year (12 regular one Xmas) on a regular basis.

They really need to look at how they run DW, as since 2011 its been a bit of a mess with delays splits season's, skipping a whole season, behind the scenes troubles etc, RTD and his team only barely managed to do it and they worked their butts off... I think they should change the infrastructure they have set up, they need two or three head writers/producers rather than one, to share the workload out and also have the creative benefit of working in a team.

Continuing to go off-topic somewhat, but .......

One of the stand-out dramas from Summer 2012 and November 2014 was Line of Duty. Series 3 began filming last April with a rumoured start date of "later in 2015". It's now slated at "later in 2016". So maybe two years before a new series is shown. But the programme survives, indeed, like Sherlock (again, another programme with at least a two-year wait between series), viewers seem to be pragmatic about the wait and eagerly anticipate its return.

What is more likely to damage DW is not the wait, it's the convoluted and at times inaccessible storylines, the increasingly heavy feel (if only all of S9 could have had the tone of the Christmas Special) and what to many may seem like a requirement to have a detailed, if not obsessive knowledge of DW folklore.

Just my opinion, others will disagree.

I personally think Moffat has been for lack of a better word lazy ever since S6. You can tell by his stories, how they have the ideas but aren't done as well as he previously did, plotholes, weak explanations, weak character consistency, similar characters who have the same traits, copying a lot more of previous stories and his own work, more breaks between series.

I just don't think Moffat has the energy to be a showrunner of Doctor Who anymore

I think the production company can handle producing 13 episodes a year. I think the problem is that they have nothing to produce as Moffatt and co have been busy on Sherlock.

Moffat's approach to TV: "Always leave the audience wanting less".

The Sun has mentioned the rumour of JK Rowling writing a script. And also that Peter Jackson might direct an episode.

This might be about as accurate, however, as their other claim that the new series will begin in Autumn 2016.

Not bad viewing figures, though. Pretty much the best of the Holiday period. Admittedly that's no guarantee of quality. Subjective. Ask Higson.

I genuinely really enjoyed Sherlock last night. Might even watch it again.

Sherlock, after a two year hiatus, has just recorded the highest rating over Christmas and New Year of 8.4 million. Like Sherlock, Doctor Who has a dedicated and loyal fan base around the globe that will ensure the programme will still be made. My feeling is that if the next episode is the Christmas one then the anticipation and hunger for a new Doctor Who will be high.

I don't care too much if he screws up 'Sherlock'. It's his own little baby after all. I just wish he'd **** off and leave DW.

I have personally found the stop-start-stop production of the past five years incredibly frustrating. But I do actually agree with what you are saying. It would be much easier to tolerate the gaps in production if I was actually excited when Who returned. But now I watch Doctor Who simply because I always have. Its not habit exactly, perhaps more like loyalty but certainly not out of enjoyment.
