Also Clara's father in a grim story about the Doctor telling him about his daughter's death, hampered by the Doctor's inability to remember who his daughter is. This one will have a grey colour pallet and be mostly standing in gloomy rooms talking. For a change.
You had me at "grim"

Well...he will! And then we'll see what the next man/woman does. Whoever that might be.

Series 9 is in my top 3 series of C21 Who so am not jaded myself. I can understand people who aren't enjoying current Who being frustrated, but do find the Moffat bashing I see online a bit OTT. He's not actively seeking to eff people off...
Curse of Fatal Death is living proof Steven Moffatt should not have been left anywhere near the real series.

I mean Female Doctor and master & Doctor flirting yet he redid this the past couple of years mind you it was the master as the Female role.

Ill be glad when he leaves and he should have left last Christmas.

Tom Baker never left just because of a new producer. It was a year or two later he got tired of the role.
True, I have a feeling unless PC is asked to leave he will stay on a 4th series

Ok yes 4 and okish to 5 but maybe 6 is pushing it, but thats probably because Im used to such a short doctor lifespan.

You do realise that Curse Of Fatal Death was a comedic spoof don't you?

But can't you see that Doctor Who is ultra-serious business?? Who the Hell does Moffat think he is finding fun with any of it?

Davison, C Baker, McCoy and McGann all had shorter tenures than Tennant and Smith.

The pattern for short tenures started way before nuwho came along.

The final 3 you mentioned all have massive problems to the rule, Colin got sacked because the writers at the time ruined the show, which then affected Mccoy who probably would have been there couple more season at least. And Mcgann only had one movie so he couldn't have any time.

But the first 4 doctors had long tenures.

I would imagine a big part of whether or not Capaldi stays on beyond season 10 is whether or not his Doctor contributed to the 1.5m viewers turning off after season 8. He's undoubtedly a great actor and I am sure he's a lovely bloke, but if the viewing figures take another hit with season 10 and the audience research were to point to the 12th Doctor as a key reason, the BBC may need to agree with him that three years is enough.

'Competent' might be a better word.

Capaldi isn't the reason, it is the writing

Hartnell and Troughton only did 3 years and 3 seasons. Very LONG seasons admittedly, but were still in the job for a relatively short time, deliberately in the case of Troughton who was the pioneer of the "3 seasons only" rule which Davison then copied.

I don't disagree with you. But the writing has created a 12th Doctor that (I think it is fair to say) is more Marmite than 9, 10 or 11.

Colin Baker's Doctor suffered in the same way - an unlikeable Doctor in his first season and significantly softened in his second. But by then it was far too late.

Colin wasn't sacked. His contract was not renewed. There's a big difference.
And the writers on the show at the time included longstanding experienced writers such as Robert Holmes. The hiatus and Colin's later departure was due much more to the general reputation of the show with the top floor of the BBC.

If you want to keep a job, but they don't want you and don't renew...isnt that technically being fired or "Let go"?

The BBC didn't want the show to continue, and the stories suffered massively.
