Strictly Come Dancing: 12.23m (51.0%)
Strictly Come Dancing: The Results: 12.47m (48.1%)

So Strictly's highest episode is 12.47m for its final results show. The series average is 10.60m (up from the 10.25m the 2014 series averaged).

For comparison, Britain's Got Talent's highest was 12.40m (inc +1

Strictly therefore beat BGT but if +1 figures are included, BGT pulls ahead with 12.75m.

Given those ratings, surely it is time to change the scoring method, replace the judges, get rid of Tess and/or Claudia and have a male "in charge", drop the Sunday results show, make every couple dance the same dance on the dance floor at the same time, bring back Peter West, #onefortheteenagers ... cont. I don't think (online) iPlayer itself is included - it's only if it's been watched on catch-up via a TV. Someone may be able to correct me on that though.

Still, that's the highest final since 2010 and the first time Strictly's been able to increase its overall viewership since then too, which isn't shabby.

That reflects my view too .... though I've seen articles (as quoted) saying iplayer would be included.

Are there any of the DS rating experts on this thread who can shed some light on this please?

What i find fascinating is the %. It's always been said right out hat the highest viewing figures were 2010 final. Yet the % isn't as high as this year.

Iplayer via some TV Routes counts as the data can be directly measured via the monitoring equipment. Watching iplayer via the website or apps on mobile does not count for overall viewing figures yet. They're still in a beta phase for getting this working. But interestingly according to this report Strictly doesn't rate that highly for views: http://www.barb.co.uk/file/download/...3_Dec_2015.pdf

Doesn't need a male in charge. Tess and Claudia are fine doing what hosts should do - doing the links and keeping the show running on time. They're doing a far better job than the previous host, whose ramblings meant that not all the judges got to comment on each dance.

Why do some men dislike having a woman in charge of anything other than the kitchen sink? Presumably because they're insecure and still want to live by the "How to be a perfect wife" attitude to women of the 1950s.

Janet43 you need to check out the kitchen cupboard labelled GSOH next time you're doing the ironing as you seem to have lost (or never had) yours.

I probably count in with those, as I watched bits of the final on the iPlayer, having not watched any of the series programmes.

I also watched the Christmas Special on the iPlayer, and was reminded why I no longer watch this, Tess "I've got to get a death grip on to the celeb to make sure they can't escape and then gush at everyone in a VERY LOUD VOICE" Daly annoys the hell out of me, far more than Bruce and his jokes ever did, not to mention all the padding and panto cat-calling/cheering/ovations.....Blech.

Your guess is totally wrong - and you know nothing about me and I'm not prepared to tell you which comedies I watch just to justify that have a sense of humour.

I find things funny if they are funny, and banging on about getting rid of Tess and Claudia, and replacing them with a MAN as many do just isn't even remotely amusing, however it's couched.

I really can't understand the obsession with ratings that the BBC seem to have.

It's the "never mind the quality feel the width," philosophy.

In my opinion, this show has been "improved" to its detriment, in a continual chase for ratings and outdoing the previous year's figures.

It is maybe the main criteria the Producer is judged on?

If so, then 'width' is proving popular with the couch potatoes.

I think width is a lot easier to achieve than quality.

The BBC is fighting - well perhaps not for its life, but to survive in its current form.

Its funding is being cut. The BBC Charter is up for renewal this year.

Having a popular family show helps justify its remit.

Not everyone in the government is fond of the BBC and some are even friends of people who work for Sky or News International - though I hope that wouldn't affect their decisions on the BBC's future.

(Agree the PTB's jobs also depend on Strictly's success.)

The success of broadcasting stations is measured by ratings. And being public, the BBC has to really care about them, specially entertainment programs. They need to be popular with the viewers otherwise what's the point?
Other programs such a nature, science or history are a different story, as they are more about "educating".

at least people are still interesed in the show and its still going strong at a time when other shows are losing viewers and interest for example x factor could easily be put into that catergory
