Personally think WI need to show more pride in playing for their country more.
A lot of the time in ODI and Test cricket the players don't want to play for their country. only seen them show up in certain situation, either by sledging them or in some ICC events. Even my Next door neighbour can see this. not saying the players are blameless at all but they are not to blame for everything, |

Dropping them to a second division test level not that bad option really since the players need motivation to perform and Test cricket needs Context to make Test Cricket interesting in every country barring Australia and England.
Even AB is saying he is losing motivation to play Test cricket because it has no meaning. But no one came up with a workable idea yet that suits everyone. One possibility that I know a lot don't like, but the women use, is a points system which includes Tests, ODI's and 20/20 and that could produce a ranking table similar to the one we have now...and it shows the best overall cricket side. Four day tests could free up more time, but overseas that would mean day/night as 4 x 70-odd overs/day won't get many results. But before Test cricket is butchered, will 20/20 lose it's appeal??? |

Again I disagree with you. 18 of those 20 overs were pretty good. Only 2 were fairly expensive. England didn't get 170 which lost them the game. Batting lost it for me. The bowlers did ok

The most damming comment, for me, was that the President of the West Indies cricket board hadn't sent any congratulations to the team during the tournament
Can't see the relationship being fixed any time soon |

Conceding 4 6's of the first 4 balls of the 20th over of the t20 world final is not ok. Whatever the batting prowess 19 runs should be defendable with sensible bowling.

Anyone know why Jason Holder didn't play this tournament, by the way? Or whether Keiron Pollard was ever in the picture for selection? Or is that all about the problems with the Board, too?
Terrible of the WI President to not have been in touch during the tournament. |

Rather ungracious of Samuels to use the trophy presentation to settle his own personal score.

Seen some folks on here and lots of middle aged journalists on twitter saying that, while they wanted England to win, they are happy to see West Indies win and want to see them back at the top of the game.
I wonder if this is a generational thing. People who grew up with West Indies being great wanting them to be back there as an act of nostalgia. I grew up with West Indies being shit. My first memories were the tail end of Curtley and Courtney holding things together and Lara being a class apart from his woeful teammates. A rubbish England team beating the WI inside two days. Then they just got worse and worse as they stopped caring. I judge this West Indies team by their current characters and I don't like them at all. I'd rather have seen India win as I really like people like Dhoni and Kohli. West Indies getting 'back to their best' means nothing to me. |

Pollard injured, Holder in the squad and he can't get into the team unless he can keep lol.
Essentially Ramdin bats at 11 and keeps. It is either brathwaithe or Holder for the team. |

I wonder if the West Indies have the patience for the longer form game - they prefer trying to be on the front foot from the off which means restrictive bowling or lack of wickets frustrate.
At this level, though, when you need that trait... wow. |

West Indies have always been my 2nd team but that's probably down to Clive Lloyd being my hero at Lancs
![]() They were the best team for ages but , unusually with such dominant sides, they weren't disliked as they won games with skill and not just because of home conditions and winning the toss. Sadly, I don't feel that way about some of the current team but that doesn't take away that they have some terrific white-ball cricketers Reflecting on the tournament as a whole, really enjoyed it and the way that Sky have covered it Rob Key is becoming a fav...

Someone further up the thread said that the WI teams should be proud to play for their country - but there isn't a country called "The West Indies" - a bit like the European Ryder Cup team.
Leaving the controversy apart, both finals, women and men were a great advert for cricket, and prove to me, as someone who has always enjoyed watching the game, especially the shorter formats - that it really is time to bury the 4 day county format, and along with it the test game too. Sacrilege! I hear shouts from all around the cricket world. However, in the days of short attention spans, is there really a place for a game where to watch it from start to finish working people have to take nearly a week off? Is it no wonder that at a 4 day county game the most rewarding pastime is playing count the spectator? The game is losing a fortune. The future is surely T20, with more teams, and expanding the most exciting format of the game to new countries, in Europe, North and South America? That's the way to put the game on a sound financial footing. Without a bold move like this I honestly worry for the future of cricket long term. |

Does anyone here find the West Indian players cocky arrogant and of full themselves or are they just very confident people who are not afraid to speak their mind
