400-415 from what i can see
![]() Seems a high quote when a side is put in , but as no wickets have gone down, they are probably right ![]() Guess they will be expecting the sun to come out Reading Cricinfo, it seems a very attritional session so far Would imagine England will be happy not to have lost a wicket in he first hour |

50 up for England
Hales looks relatively comfortable and he's only nicked one or two to the slips (obviously not taken) Root come in feels like this is a big partnership for England.......If Joe can get in and Hales can avoid that nick to slip they can score big ! |

Told you Sri Lanka got a decent attack, wouldn't go far as jayasuria but they are quite dangerous.

Why they stuck with Compton is beyond me. He was rubbish first time round and he's not any better now |

Must be just written into English cricket that we must have some sort of collapse in most test matches!
Least Hales and Bairstow are sorting it out so far. |

With the speed Bairstow reviewed that , I thought that he must have thought he hit it, hotspot said no BUT JB was right as it was missing leg
Successful review.148/5 |

We must have been confident, England picking a fair few non form batsmen. Vince is a wildcard, but apparantly he looks relaxed so maybe that got hm a pick?
It makes for a competitive series.l, though I am pleased that they have stuck with the reality of Bairstow being a fine test batsman whilst Butler is, for now, not. |

It's funny because all of the talk before this has been about how England should easily beat Sri Lanka 3-0 in this series
How many years is it now that we have consistently had problems at the top of the order? 3 or 4? How much longer until it is sorted out? |

It's not a question of if, or even when he'll play for England, just like Athers it's a question of when he'll captain England. Lad's a long way to go yet and can't burden him with expectations, but unless there's a catastrophic dip in form/technique, England's top order is sorted by 2018. |

Thrasymachus, I think we were getting closer to sorting this matter out. The selectors had tried Ballance and Lyth and they both had a fair go. Also there was the matter of too soon discarded players, in my view Pietersen needed to be persisted with but as a mere fan and not a player who had to work with and tour with him for months I've probably got a rose tinted view of him.
With James Taylors illness we have had ( scuse the pun ) the heart literally pulled out of our middle order. So with Compton and Vince they have this series maybe longer to stake or restake their claim to be in the side. Anyway back to Leeds test where the over rate is sadly pathetic and barely creeping into the teens per hour. |
