That's got to be one of the easiest follow-on decisions in recent times. Not looking good if you have a ticket for Sunday.

Really pleased I left work early this afternoon to see the final session.

Hopefully this Sri lankan side makes ICC announce the 2 division structure quicker than planned gonna be a very long tour for them.

91 all out.
Very good bowling from Anderson and co but very average batting from Sri lanka.
will be embarrasing if they lose by an innings here.

You think they might struggle to get 7 runs in their 2nd inns?

Was tempted to go durham as well next week but not worth the risk especially with the ticket being more expensive than Headingley.

Sri lanka are such an awful team essentially only have 2 batsman massive tail.”

Not looking good unless the rain intervenes tomorrow

However, you may have a chance of seeing Captain Cook pass 10,000 Test runs

Doubt it they will probably get thrashed in india and winning in Australia won't be easy.

saying that quite hard to say which team is actually number 1 or going to be.

Australia, india, South africa, Pakistan and England are close to the title.

Quite hard to separate or make a case for any of the teams at the moment.

Interesting take. I would say that England are relying on some key players, whilst struggling to find players to fill the other remaining slots.

Cook, Broad, Anderson, Stokes and Bairstow are now nailed on. Hales has done himself a favour today, Vince is an unknown yet, but Moeen and Compton seem utterly redundant.

Oops yes I did sorry

After seeing them bat in NZ earlier in the year I had a feeling theyd struggle to be competitive here.

Congratulations to Jonny Bairstow, the bloke is on top form atm.

I never bother to comment on this thread until the end of play and bowling in classic English conditions Anderson and Broad can be simply unplayable and so it proved today.

It could be all over by tea tomorrow and is just the start that the lads needed to the summer.

You might be in luck for Sunday Bhav, looks like it's going to chuck it down all day today

TMS mentioned it, as has David Lloyd - play Bairstow as a batsman and higher up the order and bring in Buttler as wk/batsman?
If that were to happen for the next series, which batsman would be dropped? And why alter a winning (hopefully!) formula just to squeeze someone in who might not hit it off?
Personally I think it's a ridiculous idea - Buttler should be playing for Lancashire!!! As should Anderson - he's now got his first fivefor at Headingley so it's time to retire from international cricket, and rejoin The Mighty's bowling attack! (Er, we need you badly, in other words...)

NB followed on from the Test and managed a half-hour of the 20/20. Half an hour of my life wasted

Looks like we may get some play which didn't seem likely listening to last night's forecast

If we do get some play England will be without Ben Stokes bowling because he's got a poorly knee , not a good game for him thanks anyway Ben.

Can't stand Graham Swann on TMS, really the first on that fantastic programme who I have ever felt that way about.

He is SO arrogant, in love with himself. And he seems to take the opposite viewpoint for the sake of it with his co-commentators whenever they give an opinion on something. So irritating. He practically bullied one of the female commentators off the air in one of her stints last year, to the point where he had to issue an apology of sorts later 'oh, it was all in jest, she knows that' etc'

The fact he threw his toys out and walked out on his team in the middle of a test series because he couldn't cope with getting hammered all over the ground a few times says it all imo.

Used to be a brilliant bowler, yes. But please stop using him regularly BBC. He kills the great vibe on TMS.

With nothing better to do last night at 7.30pm I switched on the TV for the final 30 minutes of the cricket highlights on Ch5. After a short while I realised I was watching the highlights from the first day. The game ended at 171 for 5 when rain stopped play.

Anyone else get this?

Thanks for that.

I must have pressed the button twice unknowingly. I have never watched Ch55 before. At least I can watch the second day highlights tonight If I have nothing better to do.

+1. When he's on, the radio gets turned off. Hopefully one day he'll really put his foot in it and be thrown off TMS.

I like Swanns irreverence, it still informs and makes for a better antidote to Boycs on a bad day. A mixed team is important. And Swanns inane stuff is more interesting than Vaughans.

I turned off TMS 20/20 immediately last night, Daggers I simply cannot get used to.

Should see a decent play of cricket tomorrow, might even see England bat.

First in the queue for me would be Ed Smith who wants to be the next Henry Blofeld sadly Ed will never have the charm and quick wit that Blowers once had

Meanwhile back to the test where Jimmy apart we havent bowled well enough or fielded to the standard needed. SL should be 3 or more wickets down and looking at a sure defeat today.

MS Dhoni does it again

23 needed off the last over and despite a dot on the first ball, hits the last ball for 6 to gain victory

Love that helicopter shot
