Key wicket here since they are only one wicket away from the tail.

Sri Lanka are rapidly imploding they will need the weather to save them from a 3 day defeat.

the way sri lanka have batted in this game i would suggest that when england are 9 down we are only one wicket away from the sri lankan tail

True they essentially got a night watchmen openers to protect Mathews and chandimal lol.
Essentially they only have 3 batsman in the team mendis, chandimal and Mathews

Guessing God wants me to revise another day for the exam. Got an exam on Monday lol.
Hopefully Yorkshire gives free t20 tickets as compensation if England win today.

even with the time lost to the weather it looks like this will be over today

cant really say its been the fault of the pitch either, its had enough in it to get the ball to nibble around but hales and bairstow showed if you leave well you can score runs

its a fine balance for groundsmen in england as if you prepare a pitch with no grass and then get 5 days without a cloud in the sky you end up with 600 plays 600. if they leave a little in the pitch and we get 5 days of cloud cover and conditions that help swing it can look unplayable

Tea? Want the game finished today.

Although science says cloud cover has nothing to do with swing, if anything hot day, cloudless day should help swing bowling.
Nothing wrong with the pitch probably the only complaint will be the pace, the pace was too quick for the Sri Lankan, a slower pitch would make it easier for them to survive batting but this really what the counties want.
In 2014 that was how Sri Lanka survived batting or tbh the only reason they actually have a decent record in England.
Suspect lords and Durham pitch will be slow so cricket can get to the 4th or 5th day.

science can say what it wants , experience of watching the game being played for real shows that when there is cloud cover at certain grounds it gets harder to bat

Science are also saying it is a placebo effect
personally think it is down to loads of factor which you can not get the definitive answer using experiments or science.
Really think light factor, cooler weather, the placebo effect and the fact most times batsman exaggerate the movement by playing and missing and playing more defensively.

Not sure the actually cloud cover helps swing or movement but the other factors which are present during cloud cover helps bowling especially since it only really happens in england and only at certain grounds in england.
Cloud cover doesn't really help in NZ, Australia, India, Pakistan etc.

A repeat of last year. Test matches ending by tea time day 2.
How do businesses even make a profit from this.

May June test matches favour English bowlers. Thats a fact. India, Australia, southafrica all have great batsmen who cannot play in these cold, damp, swinging conditions. Its been proven year after year for the past 6 years. The pitches are made to suit the english bowlers.

Anderson and Broad are unplayable in these conditions. The matches are too one sided and only because of the conditions.

Sri lanka must really fix their Domestic set up still laughable they don't have a 4 day competition and not really a good enough domestic set up.
been reliant on school cricket providing special talented batsman but you can not hope to have ready made batsman you have to make them and build them.

worrying sign for sri lanka is that not many special talents are coming through the school system and first class cricket doesn't even really exist in Sri lanka.

this still isn't a pitch where a team should be winning by an innings+ after only scoring 300 in the first innings

All over for Sri Lanka in a blink of an eye. I feel no sympathy for them wickets abroad are talilored to suit their attacks so why should we care if they struggle to play on seam bowler suited wickets. Nice to see Finn getting his bowling length better suited to the Leeds track and joining the bowling party success.

Well done to Jimmy on his tenfer.

TBH it is only May matches that are horrible but they are set to be dropped after 2020 anyway.
june matches are fine.
The only reason other teams struggle with england is that you have to actually leave the ball since england the only place where the ball moves, the rest of the places the ball does not move one jot so batsman can play through the line and essentially play every ball if they wanted too.
bowlers struggle as well since in the flatter decks they bowl more at a shorter length which is the wrong length in England since the batter can just leave the ball more easily.

Really the biggest difference between now and during 1990 to 2008 is that teams don't adapt well they find it hard to change techniques during series/conditions and bowlers can't change length easily either.

We forget how many of last years Ashes tests ended after 1.5 to 2.5 days worth of play.

People lose lots of money in this. Hotel bookings that cannot be cancelled. Train tickets that wont be rfunded. Venue businesses and the staff they hired all now unable to trade. Stock going waste. Etc etc.

And worryingly for Sri Lanka, then next Test is the only one inside the Arctic Circle . Dunno whether the permafrost up in Durham helps swing or seam, but if anyone's dressed as polar bears it's worth checking it's not the real thing.

Early-bird tickets for Sunday started at around a tenner, and I was seriously interested, and luckily living on the right side of the Pennines it's only a short day-return away. But for anyone further out it is a problem - not least the BBC who may have pre-booked hotel rooms for their staff!

Always thought sports fans should be able to buy specific insurance if games end early/get cancelled so for your, what, fiver a day insurance - you are covered financially.

But it won't cover your Mary Poppins costume. You'll just have to go down the pub and wear it instead.

wonder what the odds would be on sri lanka making more than 250 runs in the 9 games they have in this tour.
really can't see them scoring much runs.

Virgin trains offer insurance to cancel trains.
other don't really.
think I spend 19 pounds on the train but didn't really want to go after sri lanka lost 5 wicket was hoping to have one extra day revising for the exam.
only brought the ticket last week because mate text me saying tickets were a fiver.
