really dont understand what mathews is playing at here

they are making no attempt to get ali off strike and just letting him take singles at the end of each over

Can England reach 500?

Very rare that they post a score like this. Hopefully Sri Lanka will try and make a game of this and won't be bowled out for some ridiculous score again

150 for Moeen

Well played. If only he played like this every time he went out to bat.

is it very rare ?

last home summer we made 4 scores of 450+ in 7 tests ?

The big problem with this is that Sri Lanka aren't very good. I was actually hoping for us to lose a few quick wickets so at least it would make a game of it.

This is looking like a question of just when and not if we win the Test match.

Hopefully we can see a good partnership from the Sri Lankans.

they aren't a good side but still nice to see england be very professional in the way they are playing

could end up seeing another follow-on actually be enforced here if we wrap up the tail tonight and the bowlers are fresh again in the morning

The thing is it shows how we're maturing as a side, the Lankans were a bit better when they toured here before, yet we were awful and lost, we somehow managed not to beat West Indies without all their star players.

This has been a thoroughly professional performance in both tests, where we've bowled exactly the right line-and-lengths, something we've failed to do on so many occasions in the recent past, and before.

the other positive aspect for me is we are getting contributions from alot of people and not just relying on the same 2 or 3

compton is probably on thin ice and i think he only kept his spot for this game as they wanted a "solid" #3, especially with vince coming in on debut. given i think he was a borderline selection even before this series then he really needs a big score in the last test or i can't see him being in the lineup for pakistan

Lolz Sri Lanka are awful Man, Sri Lanka making less than 250 in all games in the tour would have been a good bet.

Yeah think Compo will get the last match if we win this one comfortably, but I'd really like to see Borthwick at 3 against Pakistan if he fails, must have scored more in that position than anyone in county cricket over the last few years, and his leg-spin could be a decent partnership breaker.

I agree about Borthwick and don't forget about Zafar Ansari who has just come back from the injury that kept him out of the winter tour

the other option is to give robson another crack as opener, he has started the season very well, and move hales to #3

Well, Hales has done the job as opener, you can't deny, I was for him going to number 3 but he's done well so far this Summer.

to Jake: Ansari is good, but needs to put a few matches behind him to be considered, his injuries are worrying.

he has and i gave him credit for the couple of innings he has played in this series, just feel #3 might be a better spot for him at this level

nice to actually have some options, real pity we dont have taylor available tho

I hadn't seen him in action before, but I watched Brett D'Oliveira in the T20 last night. He bowled well (leg-breaks) and batted well, too. Apparently, he's come off a double hundred, too. I doubt he's ready for England, but he looked like a real prospect.

Will Sri Lanka get to three Fiqures.
Hope no one brought day 4 tickets the game not reaching that far unless cook does Sri Lanka a favor and Durham a favour

your earlier comment about sri lanka maybe not reaching 250 in this series , you might be able to change that 2 to a 1

Sri lankan batsman must be getting embarrassed now, they kind of had an excuse in headingley for the collapse. but here they had a helping hand from the groundsman, pitch is pretty docile and slow, think Swann said Jayawardene would have loved it here with the low bounce and limited ball movement.

Most batting line up would be getting 300+ here minimum yet sri lanka are failing to reach 3 figures.

Worse thing for sri lanka is not sure they have anyone better outside the squad, barring Sanga and Jaya.
Thirammane must be on his last legs in the test team.

Watching the saturday debate that I recorded and nice to see everyone agreeing Test cricket needs more relevance.

Quite a joke that only Ashes get viewers and got relevance.

To make Test cricket special again it need context.

Weirdly agree with Botham idea although hard to see a 2 million or big money final showdown.

ICC need to be quick though they can still save test cricket from the terminal decline, but they need to take action to give the sport some meaning and actually give a reason for the players to play test cricket and viewers to actually watch the games.

The reason Ashes works is because people want to see the convict lose or for the Aussies the pommies losing.
