Hoping to see B sran this morning before I go to the exam, bowled quite well in the warm up if the reports are correct.

he is supposedly a left arm quick.
hopefully you caught the start as he has got finch and warner in his first 3 overs

edit : and should have had bailey first ball as well but given not out after gloving it down the leg side to dhoni and no DRS

few weeks ago we talked about the possible lure of baseball to WI cricketers especially with how popular baseball was becoming throughout the caribbean and central america in general

looks like it might be a real issue

this is a guy who has been playing internationally for the windies as well

A fairly comfortable win for Aus in the end. Looks like not having DRS has hurt India again. Yet they still dont want to have DRS, quite stupid really. The débutante Sran had a good start to his career, however will have to see if he carries on or like Sharma and Kumar he fades away once teams figure him out.

Most of the Indians I speak to say that India should use DRS. Some (very few) still insist that DRS has no place in cricket, as it is not 100% accurate. Dhoni is still stubborn on the matter.

They have a point when it comes to the predictive aspect of DRS. It is plain to see some very odd ball trajectories for LBW decisions as though they had hit an invisible brick in mid-air.

I think everyone knows the software isnt 100% perfect. However its used as an aid to stop the howlers. Which is a good thing. The on-field umpire made the wrong decision yesterday, if they had DRS it would have corrected that decision. In instances in the past, where a batsman has been given out LBW, however the umpire missed the ball hitting the bat first. DRS would catch that mistake. The same applies to caught behinds.

Yes its not 100% perfect, but more right decisions are made with it, than without it. So IMO, no they dont have a point. Its funny when Dhoni was asked if the whole team didnt want DRS, and he didnt answer the question. So obviously some in the team do want DRS.

Quinton De Koch has tripped on the stairs in the hotel and has damaged his knee and is out of the series

Dane Vilas has been called up and it is rumoured that he has missed the plane so maybe not there for the start

SA batting first so he might make it in time unless there is a bit of a collapse

pitch looks a bit green so wonder if the situation with vilas affected the decision to bat first

Desperately hoping to be wrong, but I can see England being skittled out for <200 on this wicket.

I disagree. England to pile up big score and win by an innings.

Could AB have chosen to field first and used a sub fielder while he took the gloves himself until the replacement wicky arrived?

not normally but england had agreed to allow them to do it , nothing to stop him taking the gloves but they wouldn't have been entitled to a sub fielder for picking a player not at the ground without england saying it was ok

back to back 100s for rohit and chance of another 150+ with 13 overs left

india need to make sure they get the 320-330 today from this position and put australia under a bit more pressure

Just switched on and 4 successive 4's so maybe they have learnt

(Warner is missing btw as his wife is giving birth)

T20 just started in Aukland and when England resume we will have all 3 formats live on Sky at the same time !

and I've go to go to work

The opening spread yesterday on SA runs was 345 - 360 and is currently trading at 318 - 326

painful way for sharma to get out , rahane hits one straight back at the bowler who sticks a hand out and it ricochets onto the stumps with rohit out of his ground

might be a good thing for india as he was looking a bit tired and they now get dhoni in for the last 8 overs

Amir is back playing for Pakistan after his ban for spot fixing - how do people feel about that?

As a young player does he deserve a 2nd chance or should have banned for life to set others an example?

i'm a bit torn on it

i can understand the rationale behind him getting a second chance after being punished for what he did, especially given we dont know how much he was pressured into it by the more senior guys, but i do think that we need a zero tolerance approach to cheating

butt and asif are also back playing domestically in pakistan and butt has been speaking about wanting to play internationally again, i wouldn't be torn on my opinion of that one, no way i think he should be allowed to play again. nothing to do with age or talent but purely as captain and instigator of the incident that led to the bans he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt i gave to amir.
