more funny when you find out he was called sachin after Sachin tendulkar, no idea where the baby came from very odd surname for an Indian and I highly doubt his dad or granddad or great grand dad surname was Baby.

Edit his dad surname was baby, from Wiki.

bloody hell is dad must have liked 15 year sachin tendulkar innings to name a baby after him.

looks very likely now that india will host a day night test against NZ.
duleep trophy to be day night affairs with all the big players taking part so should be a warm up to the Test match.

Also interesting decision to have Ranji trophy games in a neutral venue, wonder if the grounds will be randomised considering conditions varies drastically in different parts of the country.
if they play in the same venues/conditions does make it pointless if they just playing in the same conditions and the players not learning how to adapt to different conditions considering that is the one problem international cricketers struggle to do.

Would personally just have BCCI prepare the pitches with the home team having no say, they could still play in the home state or home venue.

there is zero chance he was named after tendulkar if he was born when tendulkar was only 15

Sounds like stories you tell your kids or the media about how you got your name.
I am more fasniated how he got the surname baby, reckon the Brits couldn't prenounce his real surname 100-500 yr ago and they changed it when their family officially got registered to India before independence.
Odd name to choose baby if that was the case considering Patel and some other surnames were common occurrences.
My surname was changed as well apprently should have been petha but they did a blunder and putted their actual name which was Gorasia and then when they moved to Kenya and then Britain they mucked up again and left out the A lol.
To be clear not all the mistakes happened in one generation, the petha one was probably 200 hundreds years and the A mistake probably 50-60 yrs ago.

The ground is perfectly round so they can't put him in a corner

Good to see Sri Lanka doing better in their second innings. Makes it a bit better match at least.

Do you think that Alastair Cook has still got time to get Ten thousand runs in this test match or wil he have to wait until the next test which is at Lords

Presumably if Sri Lanka can survive until lunch then that will happen.

new ball , fresh bowlers and a long tail

i wouldn't be betting too much on them surviving a full session

Sri lanka would probably have to bat around 2 session for England to have a decent amount of runs to chase.

agree with people that say england should host more T20 internationals.
play more of the format that viewers and the public want.

Staring on time which didn't seem likely with the radio report earlier on

Overcast and the lights are on and a new ball

Think it may be over before the drinks break

Doesn't look like Chandimal has that much confidence in what's left at the other end

Starting to play his shots

ETA Just dropped behind as well

Bairstow drops a catch he should have taken off Jimmy.

that was a poor attempt, those should be regulation catches for a keeper

Bairstow still has issues with his footwork, was standing on the wrong foot and made a simple catch look very difficult for him,
Keeping will be interesting for england since I feel buttler a more natural keeper and doesn't really get footwork wrong.
Bairstow on the other hand regularly gets the footwork wrong and you can really tell keeping doesn't come naturally to him, he always has to think about his footwork.

Really do they go with the better Keeper Buttler or stick with Bairstow and hope his keeping improves or just get buttler in and move Bairstow to 5 with Root at 3.

It's a long-standing gripe of mine that being the best wicket-keeper in the country isn't enough to get someone into the Test side.

It's too late now, but I think Read or Foster should have been nailed on in this side for years. Surely it would have been better and easier to work on their batting (which isn't bad anyway in either case) rather than bring in a batter and work on their keeping?

Poor fielding by Woakes - get behind the stumps or don't they teach you that at Warks ??
Bhaveshgor

Foster been the unlucky one, is probably the best pure keeper I have ever seen and could bat to a decent/good level.
Would have easily played 100 test+ for every test nation even England, although reckon Prior would have pushed him close but then when prior made his debut or came about foster should have been a regular for England.

Crazy how Geraint jones was preferred to Foster and Read.

Does anyone actually know why Foster wasn't considered during 2003 period after Alec Stewart retired.

Sri Lanka battling on well although if Chandimal had been caught, we may have been on post match interviews by now

Hope Chandimal gets his 100, he has a very good conversion rate as well

Maybe Joe Root should ask for his advice...
