Two quick wickets for England this morning. 291-9.

Six catches for Bairstow.

Big thanks to the umpire for the inspired bowling change.

Amir is back playing for Pakistan after his ban for spot fixing - how do people feel about that?

As a young player does he deserve a 2nd chance or should have banned for life to set others an example?
No problem for me. He put his hands up straight away and admitted what he had done. Didnt try to deny it at all. He didnt bother appealing his sentence, and took what was handed out. Even though it was harsh.

A good interview with Amir here.

As for the other two, I hope they will never play for Pakistan again. I blame them both for dragging Amir into it. He was a young lad, learning his way. When your captain and senior player tell you to do something, its hard to say no.

A great win for Pakistan against NZ. A steady start back for Amir. Nothing to spectacular. Great innings from Afridi and Hafeez.

a 4 with 1st ball as a batsman and a wicket with first ball as a bowler in test cricket. I imagine that hasn't been done too often.

Cook caught down the leg side....
bit of a debate on TMS as t whether being caught down the leg side is ';unlucky' as commentators usually say

I'm not sure how it's any more unlucky than nicking one to the slips.......you play a shot, don't get it quite right, nick it, somebody catches it

No surprise England batsman have struggled in this innings, they have been one of the worst batting line ups in quick/bouncy wickets in the last 5-6 years.
the techniques/trigger movements the batsman have in these conditions are just awful.

England batsmen came back at the Saffas in the last half hour of the session with Root and Stokes putting together a quick 50 partnership. Its all in the balance now so I hope we see some rain this evening. :-/

K

On TMS, Andrew, the super scorer , said that it had been done once before in 1930 by a kiwi
Also, the SA inns was the first time all 11 batters had got to double figures and no one had reached 50!!

Looks like another easy win for the Aussies. Sharma getting another ton in vain. Once again the Indian bowlers struggling. You have to wonder why India are playing 2 spinners on bouncy pitches. Although I suppose you can argue that Jadeja is an allrounder. Looks like the Indian batsman will need to score 330+, to give their bowlers something to aim at.

Moeen Ali has withdrawn from the IPL auction after the ECB raised concerns over his workload.

ESPNcricinfo understands that Andrew Strauss, the director of England cricket, contacted Moeen and his representatives today to discuss his involvement in the tournament after papers were lodged to confirm his inclusion in the auction on Thursday.

While Strauss made it clear the final decision was up to Moeen, he did express his concerns over the volume of cricket such an IPL stint could commit Moeen to in addition to his international commitments. As a result, Moeen decided to withdraw.

game very much in the balance atm

not going to be an easy pitch to bat last on so a decent first innings lead is going to be important, big first session coming up

it will be but also will have the old ball for all of this session , new ball will be due around lunch so its also a chance to get back in and make some runs before the new ball is taken
