I seem to recall that Boycott was not a fan of extra protection for batters until he has his arm broken. He started wearing an arm guard himself after that.

England's home season in 2017 has been confirmed as the longest in their international history, after the ECB announced a glut of fixtures spanning 148 days and featuring both the earliest start date, May 5, and the latest finish, September 29.

South Africa and West Indies are lined up for full tours in an unprecedented summer that will also feature the ECB's hosting of the Champions Trophy in early to mid-June, and the women's World Cup between June 26 and July 23..

it was a bit weird watching today

it never felt like we were doing anything really aggressive but just kept ticking along at better than a run a ball and got to 324 without really breaking sweat

i think today showed just how much most of the players are maturing as in addition to having the ability to play the big shots they are also starting to rotate the strike really well

The ECB has said it will follow government advice on their scheduled tour to Bangladesh, following Friday night's terrorist attack in Dhaka which left 20 people dead.

The board said it will "work closely" with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and their own security experts over the coming months in deciding whether the tour, which is due to start on September 30, will go ahead. Last year, Australia had postponed their tour of Bangladesh based on government security advice. And earlier this year, Australia had pulled out of the Under-19 World Cup that was hosted by Bangladesh.

not a huge fan of people being selected based on other formats but buttler may have played himself back into the test team with how he has done in this series

he's been pretty solid behind the stumps and that 90odd he made in the first game was a well constructed and sensible innings in the game situation when he came to the crease

vince wont get dropped after just one series and i still think it makes sense to take the gloves away from bairstow, as he has just been so good with the bat

I'd give Borthwick a chance somewhere in the X1 though

thing is i think bairstow is a guy that looks capable of averaging high 40s if not even getting to the 50 mark with the bat, its exceptionally rare for anyone to manage those sort of numbers whilst keeping and when his keeping is work in progress why not just give him the chance to fulfil his potential with the bat rather than be held back as a pretty average keeper

It's a fair point, but I think that there's not much between them and with other changes in the line up likely, I'd stick (for now)

my idea actually means fewer new faces as buttler has already played tests

Big Change with DRS


The ICC has approved changes to the lbw umpire's call in the DRS playing conditions, with the conclusion of its annual conference in Edinburgh on Saturday. For on-field lbw decisions to be overturned, half of the ball would now need to hit a zone of the stumps that also borders the outside of off and leg stumps. Earlier, half of the ball would need to hit a zone between the centre of off and leg stumps.

An ICC release said: "The size of the zone inside which half the ball needs to hit for a Not Out decision to be reversed to Out will increase, changing to a zone bordered by the outside of off and leg stumps, and the bottom of the bails (formerly the centre of off and leg stumps, and the bottom of the bails)."

The amendment will come into effect from October 1 or from the start of any series using DRS that commences just prior to this date.

The change will benefit bowlers and more batsmen will be given out once on-field decisions are referred as the "zone" the ball needs to hit for the decision to be overturned has increased.
