As a Surrey fan I fully support Ballance's inclusion into the squad. One less for us to worry about as we need a win against Yorkshire. The more Yorkshire players this week the better.

Reading the Mail on Sunday today ahem

Their cricket writers were putting forward their opinion that Ballance has mainly got a one match deal before Stokes and Anderson come back for his place. It makes sense to me along with their view that the pitch will be a flat track and getting a result in 5 days with an understrength attack will be hard work.

The forecast for London from Thursdays is promising to be dry. We'll see but I think if we win the toss then the Pakistani team will be under pressure.

cook confirmed that jake ball will make his debut tomorrow

thought he should after being ahead of roland-jones for the sri lanka game but given it might be a one-off game with anderson due back for the next game there was a possibility they might have gone with the guy playing at his home ground

hope this doesn't come back to bite me later today but dont mind having lost the toss and bowling first, with how lords pitches tend to flatten out i think day 1 can be the best day to bowl

in this evidence pakistani openers won't last long in old trafford, edgbaston or oval.

yeah england been a bit unlucky so far , caught the edge a few times now but only one that was catchable and vince put it down, would have been a cracking cath if he had held onto it

yeah not sure how the opener gave about 4-6 chances in 12 overs on that pitch where the ball not really moving much, no swing, no seam and no carry.

Pakistan chances in this series depends on Azhar ali here if he is a dud like the openers or like most of the Sri lanka batsman then pakistan are likely to lose this series quite easily just like Sri lanka.
but if he scores runs and survives pakistan are likely to score enough to give england a game in this series.

Not enough though is it

David Willey bowling well and Adam Lyth on an unbeaten 153. Up the Tykes

It looks like we are going to get the moral victory of a draw. Even Surrey can't lose 9 wickets in two hours.

A very important late wicket for England. Woakes has done well today.

Finn desperately needs something to go his way. If someone needs a wicket at the moment it is Finn.

Yes, Misbah seems to have better in the last few years since he has been captain than he did when he was younger. They'll be disappointed to lose Shafiq towards the end of the day.

Have to agree.

But Stokes will need to do something in first class cricket to get back.

Looks like Finn's place is vulnerable but I assume Anderson will be in ahead of Stokes, assuming both are fit enough.

Michael Carberry has been diagnosed with cancer. I've not seen any further details. I wish him all the best.

Disappointing day by some of the England players in their bowling and fielding. We have the resources to change up and do better than that in the next three tests.

Well batted by Misbah he held out but if we'd pushed harder at the others then 280 would have been no more than a hope. Broad needs to remember what his job is when Andersons away and lead the attack and get the remaining 4 wickets cheaply.

Sad to hear about Carberry, hope he gets better soon, always felt he got a raw deal being dropped after the Ashes in Austraila, Had been listening to Warwickshire v Hampshire on the Radio, and the BBC Comms said he had gone for tests,

Going onto the test series, If. Moeen Ali, is going to get bashed around, and if the Selectors feel we haven't got a decent spinner, personally I would have bought in Scott Borthwick, Who can bat but can bowl.

We're into the third summer of using Moeen Ali, as a part time bowler, thought it was only as temporarily, until we found a new spinner. I remember the Pakistani guy who bowled at Worcester who's name I can't remember, said he felt Moeen Ali would have been up to a good grade, by the end of his first summer in Tests.

The Pakistani batsmen especially Misbah, looked slow when the pace bowlers were on, is there a call for a all pace attack, and use Root if u need him

always thought ali was someone you play as a second spinner who is a decent bat if the conditions merit 2 spinners

he's done ok for us but an average over 40 after this many games doesn't really merit the spot as the main spinner in a test side
