Wow root Backfoot punch is even more beautiful at the ground.

32-2

This has set the cat amongst the pigeons.

Vince has the opportunity to earn his place in the next test.

Pakistan are favourites now.

Gonna be a long day in a stand with about 20-30% Pakistani fans.

Can't see England winning without Root getting most of the runs.

Lol hafeez laughing at a kid shouting and dancing like a manic and saying Pakistan Zindabad.

Poor shot by Hales. England don't need to be in a hurry, unless there's some horrendous weather forecast that I'm not aware of.

Can't believe the odds only have Pakistan as slight favourites, for me they're very clearly in pole position and were so even before these 2 wickets.

Poor shot by Root too. Giving their wickets away.

The way we're (not) batting, it may not last 'till tea

We have 2 days to score these runs

Seems like they want to get home to watch the final holes of the golf

Which one of these will be the first to be lbw to Yasir

Disappointing start from England

Leaving it to the bottom 6 to score more than the top 5 as we seem to have doing for a while now

All a bit depressing watching England bat this morning.

Looking back at recent times, England have struggled to find anyone who has a) the technique and b) the patience/mental strength to be a front-line batsman. Cook and Root are the only ones with their places nailed on, and I have to wonder what it is that's going wrong.

Is this the state of the game everywhere, with T20 fundamentally changing everything around it? Is this something about the County system or beyond? Is it just bad luck?

It is disturbing that too many batters have such fundamental flaws that they will be found out quickly at the highest level. At the same time, I think our lack of investment in a proper spinner is really showing. If Moeen is going to bat at 7 or 8 consistently, then surely we should bring in Rashid and/or Borthwick. Rashid is a decent enough batsmen, and this over-reliance on batting over the primary skill is the wrong approach, IMO (for both bowlers and wicket keepers).

And to think they had ambitions of being the number 1 ranked test team again

The minute they come up against a decent bowling attack and it's back to the usual English batting collapse

Looks like it's advantage Vince over Ballance on who's going to keep his place for Old Trafford

Joe Root is a fantastic player but occasionally he does things that make you wonder if he's a bit braindead.

Waiting 3 and a half days to post eh ? Notice you didn't come on when England were winning.

Still, STILL, waiting for you to tell us who the top 5 should be. Of course you won't reply because you know nothing about cricket only being miserable and moaning.

They're doing alright so far in quite challenging conditions.

Bookies have this 50/50 atm but I personally have us strong faves. Pakistan bowling serves up plenty of loose deliveries and free boundaries. That keeps the pressure off, you can defend anything decent and just wait for the freebies.

If we can get through the next session losing only 1 or 2 wickets we'll win.

Another poor, unnecessary shot, this time by Vince.

I'm not on here 24/7 unlike some people on here who have over 25,000 posts. I do have a life outside of this forum

I also didn't realise that we lived in a dictatorship where nobody is allowed to disagree with Darren the great cricket sage

You didn't disagree with my post. You never do. All you do is post negative comments. You never post anything constructive. Hence when you slated our top 5 I asked you to elaborate. Still waiting.

And you think 6 posts a day is on this 24/7 ?

It's now advantage Ballance as England are just short of halfway to the winning total

Bookies have us slight favs as well which I dont agree with

EDIT..well maybe not for Ballance

Think he may have wasted his chance

That because market had England around 100 run advantage before the game.

Loads of traders making money of this test many backed Pakistan because of the wrongs odds.
Pakistan series win was good odds as well.

Crackers isn't it that two of England's best players are currently playing in front of a few hundred in a county match in Southport
