Ali in 20/20 mode what a brainless shot no idea what he offers this side tbh Rashid would be the better option

What the hell was that for?
Somebody needs to tell them you don't get points for finishing in 4 days, you get points for winning.
There is 2 days left jesus even a kid in school would know its not a T20 match.

Absolutely stupid shot

Imagine what Yasir will do on wickets that actually turn like OT and the Oval

The way that they are giving their wickets up, it seems about right

Cannot believe I missed Mo's dismissal. Flicked to the darts and golf and when I switched back he'd gone. Sounds a shocker the way Sky and you guys are mentioning it.

As for Amir. Yep, time served. Let's move on

I think before a ball was bowled we would have replaced Ballance and Ball with the returning Stokes and Anderson for the Second Test and I have seen no reason to change that.

It has been a low scoring Test match with few big scorers.

Doubt England would go with 6 bowlers especially with Ali in the top 7.

Reckon both batsman just about did enough to keep a spot with Finn, Ali and ball going out of the team.
Ali is probably 50-50 but it should happen.

Vince or ballance or both likely to get dropped later in the summer or before the India series.

I think with two genuine all-rounders in Stokes and Woakes we can go with five batsmen - and it is arguable whether Stokes or Ballance is the better batsman. It also gives us five bowlers to share the load.

One-day cricket has improved the batting of the lower orders.

I think there could well be 3 changes for Old Trafford (although if it was up to me there would be 4)

Out Ballance, Finn and Ball

In Stokes (at 4 with Vince moving to 5) , Rashid and Jimmy

You need two quality spinners at OT with three seamers. Anderson and Broad will be two, which would be unfortunate for the dropped player but horses and all that.

Exactly

Jimmy Broad and Woakes plus Stokes if he is fit to bowl

Rashid and Moeen with maybe Root with a few overs

It's not the bowling I am worried about though to be fair

It's our batsmen failing to deliver

Yep Woakes looks rock solid out there. If these two can slowly accumulate the total beyond 200 suddenly 80 odd with 4 wickets remaining looks very gettable.

This game is far from done yet.

A pity Ali tossed his wicket away so cheaply. England would be favourites at tea with only 5 down.

Hills odds at tea

Pakistan 1/3
England 9/4

Wouldn't back either of them at those prices though

I got some more on England at 4/1 immediately after Ali was out. 16 runs later that 9/4 looks a bit tight. But they'll be evens again if they add another 25-30 which is possible the way it's looking out there. The bookies are still very hesitant to lay England and it's not hard to see why. The bowlers aren't getting much hell out there. Brainless batting is what will lose us this test if it happens.

Maybe. At the moment we are scoring at 3.16 per over . If that carries on , we will be around 250 when the new ball is due towards the end of play

On a separate note, anyone know the regs on claiming the extra half hour tonight from a batting point of view ?

Both Stokes and Anderson have batted and bowled in the county match at Southport so both absolutely fine

As for batting order. Bairstow should bat at 4. England's best player at the moment and he's coming in at 6.

completely agree, and thats why i also want him to not have to keep as its going to be hard for him to maintain his batting form and keep wicket

his contribution as a batsman is way more important than what he gives us as a keeper so why not let him focus on what he is better at

Not so sure about that, especially if we spend a day and a half in the field and are then 3/2

Whether he is currently England's best player is open to discussion

I know it sounds mad, but I think Woakes may have that honour .....
