Root my MOTM. He turned the match back in Englands favour, and in difficult conditions that 100 was worth double.

Broad has taken 8 wickets once and 7 wickets twice

this was his 4th best haul
The 8 wicket hall being in last Summers Trent Bridge test in the Ashes Series were he finished with 8 for 15 which effectively won The Ashes.

Dont you think Root should be Man of the Match as without that century England would not be in this position to win
My number 2. Broad blew the opposition away

Excited by this current England team Cook has away series win in India and SA and 2 home Ashes series wins
Bairstow finally looks like the player we see for Yorkshire
Hales is the only worry but he has to get a home series as opener before we write him off
Add that we have Wood and Plunkett waiting in the seam ranks and the future looks bright

Well that was fun. Fantastic bowling from Broad.

But why does Michael Vaughan insist on calling Blowers, "my dear thing," all the time when he commentates with him? It is an eccentric affectation with Blowers but just annoying from Vaughan.

not sure it would have made a difference.
England would still be 2-0 up because SA batting has been quite poor and very dependent on Amla and De villiers.
Steyn inclusion only really makes a difference if he could take the wickets of Stokes/Root.
Those two have been the key batsman.

Root innings in the first innings was phenomenal, that innings pretty much proved everyone he is destined to be a great batsman.
Before this innings people still had doubts on his play on bouncy/quick pitch because he did in the past have issues with his footwork and would be stuck on the back foot which caused him too struggle in the Ashes down under and pretty much affected him throughout 2013-14 period.
But in this innings he played the SA bowlers with ease and picked the length of the ball so early and the feet, bat and body were in great position and he waited for the ball to arrive.
But saying that barring root and Stokes the other batsman have still got weakness against the pace in these kinds of wickets.

Although biggest surprise has been Bairstow didn't really think he had the ability to be a test match player.

Has the last three away test series victories that England have won have been against teams who were at the time number one in test rankings Im sure India was number one when we beat them in India

nope number 1 was SA.
Australia was around 3-5 in 2010/11 with india number 1
India was around 4 with South Africa number 1.

If anything England probably tours the teams at the right time.
Australia were in a decline around 2010 so great moment to face them.
India had a new team in 2012/13 and England probably had their strongest team ever in the Sub C, strong batting line-up and Anderson/Swann/Panesar.
South Africa right now are in a decline, no win in last 9 test matches and the new players hardly look test quality barring Bavuma/Rabada.

Delighted for Cook he's had so much stick and negative press but he's a wonderful captain

The future is very bright indeed.

What an awesome display of bowling today from Broad - he really is fulfilling his potential now and - injuries permitting - he could end up with well over 500 test wkts.

An added bonus today was watching the cricket match in Dad's Army - with Fred Trueman in a cameo!

It would be fantastic to think that this generation could see Broad and Jimmy one and two in the all time charts for England.

Surely it is just a matter of when Broad overtakes Sir Ian?

He always did. Butler was given first chance, him having mega buck IPL potential.
Hales is another IPL type talent given test opportunities.

.y every pundit was saying that Buttler should be test stalwart for years to come last summer... Amazing how they change their mind after every opposing result and performance... What about them all saying that it was a very even series and all in the balance after SA performance with bat in the last test after saying it could be compete walkover after first test...

Not changed my mind on Bairstow's keeping, Bairstow clearly deserves his place in the batting line-up, but would rather have Jos behind the stumps. Bairstow really poor with the gloves IMHO.

Get rid of Hales, move Compton to open with Cook, slot Buttler in. Or TBH another 'keeper if one is good enough.

I'm well aware of the name, let's not hype him up too much yet though, remember Mark Lathwell?

Always been my first choice since Prior left

He will unless he is crocked.

9 catches this last game. I was also very impressed with his attitude. With the wickets falling the other end he could easily have played for red ink but he played for the side.

Remember him, opened for Englamd... Was it with Athers? Looked completely out of his depth... Did he just have the one test, or did he have a couple?
