Had England enforced the follow on, when would the game have finished ? Today.

Thought this was a three-match series but TMS said it's four . Presumably the final test will be at the Oval (is that good for us, or Pakistan?). Once upon a time the Oval was a nailed-on draw (650/4 plays 550/5 and a parched outfield) but those days seem a long while ago!

Anyhow, looks like the only change for Edgy might be Stokes who's having one of those deep scans. At least the series will go to the final game now - if England win where are we in the rankings?

Could have taken the extra half hour yesterday and ripped them out!

It took over 70 overs today, what makes you think it would have taken less than 20 yesterday ? Is this based on a pure hypothetical guess ?

So do we keep the same side for the next test

Or

Drop Vince

The momentum is with England now.

However why the selectors persist with Anderson, Cook and Root is beyond me - do they know all of the skeletons in the ECB's closet?

Oh how I long for the days of all time greats like Hick and Ramprakash.

Derek Pringle was the poster boy of a nation.

Well Stokes' medcial results will be the first matter to be dealt with. His state of fitness holds a big say in what changes to the side if any may come.

This last test for me said plainly to me that Vince could have been surplus to requirement as the England batting for once was strong. Also we ended up in a position when we might have done with another bowler to come in when Stokes got injured. Some of the way the game went relied on the toss of a coin and it all could have been different.

I can't see them dropping Vince unless the selecters have had enough and go for some young blood like Borthwick etc.

How could I forget Derek?

The man bestrode the cricketing world like a colossus.

There will never be another one like him.

Not sure that's fair, the England batting has been good a lot of late, just the first test against Pakistan let them down. But overall it has been excellent this summer

Oh and Borthwick is older than Vince.

I imagine they'll bring back Ball and move the batting order around a bit. Woakes at 8 is going to be just fine. I'd like to see Borthwick in for Vince, although on The Verdict, they've brought up Ian Bell again...

Boycotts granny has broken her stick of rhubarb so the selectors will be stuck in going to the next natural level of selection.

The next test is at Edgbaston isn't it ? Maybe that's why they have mentioned Bell but he should be back of a very long queue for me.

The XI I think they will pick

Cook
Hales
Root
Vince
Ballance
Bairstow
Woakes
Ali
Broad
Anderson
Ball

Pity about Stokes, the all-round skills of him, Bairstow and Woakes make England a force it's just some of the batting positions that really need sorting

Yes I agree, good to see you on here - never knew you were a big cricket fan Aaron.

I reckon the only change will be that Stokes will sadly not be fit. My guess is that Finn will come back in.

Love the cricket, I know unusual for a Scotsman to be a huge England cricket fan but I used to live near Headingley and came to absolutely adore the game and the history of the game

Well we were staring down the precipice at one point at Headingley Darren but Hales and Bairstow saved the bad situation for us. Our batting generally has been ok but the weak links keep looking very suspect.

I'm not sure what happened at Lords , to my eyes it was like we had no respect for them and we rightly got a good shoeing over the course of the match.

The more talk there is of new meat to try out then I'm slowly deciding that I'm for it. Either Borthwick or Ben Duckett could fit in now and perhaps make the winter tours.

As things are now, and still will be if the series drawn:

3. Pakistan 111
4. England 108

Pakistan win 3-1:

2. Pakistan 117
4. England 104

Pakistan win 2-1:

2. Pakistan 115
4. England 106

England win 2-1:

3. England 110
4. Pakistan 107

England win 3-1:

3. England 112
4. Pakistan 105

Also worth considering in the West Indies, if:

India win 4-0, they move to 114
India win 3-0, they stay on 112
India win 3-1 or 2-0, they drop to 110
India win 2-1 or 1-0, they drop to 108

So due to rounding:

If India win 3-0 and England win 3-1, both on a 112 rating, India would stay above England.

Any other situation where they have the same rating after their respective series', England would go above India.

Judging by the very sparse crowd i wouldnt call it anywhere near a "days money". Or a reason not to have enforced the follow-on as some other posters on here were suggesting

I would replace the allrounder with an allrounder.

Vince and Ballance is like Hick and Ramps again, only worse.
