Man of the Match is tricky with it being a real team effort
Has to go to a member of the winning team I guess |

Wonder if that dropped catch will put James Vince out of the next Test
Only a couple of days to recover if his finger is damaged Would be a good reason to bring Scott Borthwick in ... |

Yeah it will have to go to a bowler, no England batsman in this test got a century.
Woakes will be worth a shout as well. |

I'll hang my colours to the wall here. England to bat for 5 overs. Jonny to get his ton. England to bowl them out and win by a stack of runs. Jimmy to get a 5 for

Moeen averaging 6 better than Yasir Shah with the ball in this series, would have got good money on that after Lords.

I would give Azhar Ali man of the match. Made most runs in the match against the better attack.

Well, has to be said we're reversing it brilliantly, never really expected this, bodes well for India getting something out of a dead pitch.
think england attack is more threatening if they based it on reverse swing than spin. Really good win for england this, bowling been excellent barring day 2. although batting is still an issue with only Root, Cook and bairstow all trustworthy or solid. Guessing Vince gets another game, can't see him surviving India though his technique and play against Yasir is quite poor. |

Its really odd how many posters here continually underestimate Englands chances of getting to number 1 in the world.
Thery're capable of avoiding defeat in India, possibly even winning, and within 18 months are going to be back at number 1. Its there for them. The naysayers will underestimate them but have a good of chance being proved wrong. if you want I offer you 1000/1 on england to win or draw the series. England will never win or draw that series considering they won't score many runs or take enough wickets cheaply enough to win. Have a look at the current Sri lanka vs Australia series for a clue. Just incase you are some old person the pitches won't be the ones in india that you got 20-30 yrs ago chances are the decks are slightly quicker, slightly bouncier and turn from day 1. their is a reason why Ashwin average 22 or something in india and jadeja probably high 10s. in england/Australia CEO wickets make the most money in india now bowling deck makes the most, if bowlers can't take wickets viewers just drop in massive loads in india now, i be very surprised if they play in a deck that results in a draw with no or small amount of rain. i be surprised if any team scores more than 450 in an innings. actually i be surprised if any batter from england averages more than 30 or 35 you can pin this post if you like. |

Could I have a pound on that
![]() ![]() ![]() joke aside being number 1 right now not even that great, not sure I would want to be number 1 out of bunch of bad team or teams that all got weakness and strengths. far better being number 2 or 3 than being number 1 and then getting humiliated. it is pretty clear england are not number 1, got the potential yes but they are long way off from being a clear number 1 side. at the moment the rankings are a cycle teams go up and teams go down. england right now are on the way up alongside india and then england will go down, india goes up, india goes down, Australia/England or some other teams goes up. this cycle will never change unless teams can win away now. Australia will never win away or anywhere the ball moves until they change the wicket in Australia and start preparing spicier deck their, they are literally flat track bullies and the india of the 80/90s. Englad need to win in Asia and away from home. india needs to win outside Asia. same goes with the rest of the teams. till teams away from home, number 1 ranking is meaningless the rankings were not created for home advantages being so huge. If anything I want india to be world number 1 so ICC and media around the world can stop using the rankings, although ICC know ranking crap and want something else to make Test cricket special and more important. |

even the player know that they won't be number 1 till they win in india or abroad/outside asia.
think it was mentioned before the summer that if they won 7-0 and australia loses 2-0 they were number 1 before india but the players were not going to celebrate or act like number 1 till they played india since they knew the real stuff was to come and some of the player learnt from 2011-2012 that to be the best you need to earn it abroad to get the tag for a long time. last time around their greatest achievement wasn't even when the team was number 1, they actually won more games being number 2 or 3 than number 1 lol. lost 3-0,2-0 and drew 1-1 after being number 1. but without being number 1 won in australia and in india. |

Why no 5th test this year ?. Just 4 tests is ridiculous . I was thinking Pakistan could still win the series but now I see the game at the Oval is the last .
Surely a 5th test would mean much needed money for some ground and the game . |

Vince gets one more match, needs to score big, catapulting someone in is not really fair on them. Unless you go for someone like Bell, but he's not in great form for Warks.

and the fact the contract stated 7 test a year and really 5 test series should get scrapped too many teams and not many available space in the schedule to have 5 test series and play everyone in a 4 yr cycle and with a good number of test for each series,
could only have more 5 test series if you bring in division. |

Ali deserved Man of the match brilliant performance yesterday to give us the chance of winning the test match and have to say it was a great team effort.
Also have to say well done to Chris Woakes for equalling the amount of wickets took against Pakistan in a series bettering Anderson wicket tally and in one few tests and with one left to play. |
