yeah "umpires call" is not as generous now
the only issue will be the line, but if the line looks straight then it will be out. |

root looks to be playing with the mindset that sooner or later he is gonna get one with his name on it so he may as well try to be positive and score as many as he can before that happens

tour was always going to be tough with a few inexperienced players and a fairly average spin attack
not really sure how he saw that. England might win 2-0, but doubt they will win every session or day or basically thrash the crap out of bangladesh. like you say england got some inexperienced players and average spin attack plus away from home so it was always going to be harder to win because of it. |

Difference between Root and Ali here is stark.
Root picking length quicker although his sweep looks very ugly. Ali struggling with the spin, not sure he actually scored a proper run yet against the spinners. |

Think that even.
not sure that conclusive evidence to overturn the decision. although might not be relevant if the hawkeye says missing although that unlikely. |

good article, kind of true as well considering these days even the pace men from india, sri lanka, ban generally bowl quick. would say on average most would bowl mid 80s. "The true evolution of fast bowling isn't the top speeds. Perhaps Thommo was the quickest, or maybe the fastest was from the Tait, Brett Lee and Akhtar era. But the true test of how much quicker bowling has become is how many people these days can bowl around 90mph." |

sorry mimik1uk that was pretty clear that the ball hit the pad first in the ballance appeal.
for one the bat is behind the pad when the ball struck the pad. |

the ball didn't hit the pad full on tho, so where the bat was in relation to the pad isn't the issue, imo the ball may have glanced the pad on its way to the bat but any contact was minimal and i still dont think it was conclusive based on the footage we saw
i maybe have a different view of what conclusive evidence the onfield decision was wrong is tho, i usually tend to favour the onfield decision unless its really obvious doesn't have to be full on, just has to hit it, I think. Edit looking at it on the net, it seems if the ball hit the pad first which looks very likely in this case, then it become irrelevant that he hit the ball with the bat. |

might be wrong but doesn't any contact with the pad or body before touching the bat count towards an LBW.
doesn't have to be full on, just has to hit it, I think. you had implied that because the bat was behind the pad it had to have hit the pad first, but the ball went past on the edge of the pad and any contact there may have been before it got to the bat was only a glance so i said if there was any contact with the pad it was minimal and therefore not conclusive imo |

i didn't say it didn't just need to be a glance did i ?

root gone, big trouble now
bit of an unlucky one again, as the keeper was never gonna get that but it popped up nicely to slip |
