Really this winter if England don't get 350 in the first innings they haven't batted well, even in the new pitches.
Will be tough but they need those runs since 100 will be impossible on day 4-5 especially with the opposition most likely on average be able to score 50-150 runs more in the similar conditions. In today pitch could see India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh all batting way better. Not sure 100/5 on day 1 going to win many games this winter. |

Well England aren't used to the conditions - those countries are.
Have to see how the Tigers do in their innings. |

Tbh if you being picked for England you should generally be able to adapt in differing conditions.
Really the sameness county pitch is really an issue considering in the past Northants was a dry turning deck with kumble bowling spin and with conditions helping Swann and monty to develop. Really in top level sport differing conditions shouldn't be the difference between a team winning games and losing. At the moment quite hard to explain how ranked 8th in world thrashes world number 1 or how a top ranked side struggles with a team ranked 9 irrespective of the conditions. |

Tbh Australia are asking the same question after losing 13 test in a bounce in Asia and all very easily with no real batting success, think Clarke comes the closest with an average around 40 but tends to be score century or nothing.
They blaming it on Sydney and Adelaide not turning and Melbourne not having seam and inconsistent bounce. Really at the moment no side been adapting well to differing conditions like they did in the old days. |

Some of our top order looked very rusty and out of form hence their poor dismissals. Bad planning to play only a couple of days cricket before the test. Perhaps taking Bangladesh seriously would have put us in a better situation than we are in currently.
Our lower order saved us big time today otherwise we'd have folded for under 250. |

TBH ( as you like to say that so much
) Michael Atherton said anything over 250 on that pitch is good and over 300 is excellent.Don't get me wrong 300 is excellent but won't exactly win games or be in a dominant position. wrote this in another forum that basically the reverse to what india/Sri lanka or to a lesser extent Pakistan bat in england or outside asia and they scrape to 250 or 300 and they basically make it sound like batting is difficult you could probably add Australia to the list and they basically assuming when their bowl the opposition batsman will have the same difficulties and in most cases the bowlers are not good enough to get the same purchase or the batsman make less of the mistakes so they tend to score higher. god knows how many times I seen england dismiss teams cheaply in england and then the oppostion assume they will get the same swing, seam and the batsman will struggle with the moving ball rarely happens that way. England spinners will still have to be top class to get 10 wickets here and if they not then Woakes, Broad and Stokes will have to bowl more overs which generally means Bangladesh are batting well. Really we won't know till Bangladesh bat but reckon 250 isn't that great of an first inning score especially if england batting first they really should be posting a total that gives them a very good chance of a 50+ lead. really 300-330 is about par. would say 350-370 is excellent. If england have a poor day with the ball tomorrow it shouldn't be forgotten that they didn't bat well in the first innings. |

What a load of rubbish. Moen has kept his head today amid wickets falling & poor umpiring - why isnt the focus on the umpire making bad decisions which lead to reviews? And over zealous appealing?
Well done for picking on England's (current) top scorer in the first innings. Ridiculous Ball spun from the start and Shakib and the debutant bowled very well, it's an OKAY start, considering some of our players clearly undercooked. |

Bit baffled how you think averaging 22 in WI isn't struggling against spin.
Anyway we see what he does this winter, I be very surprised if he averages more than 30 after today show with the bat. |

pretty surprised Ali batting still, he looks out of his depth so far.

Because he only got out to spin as once as I pointed out before, run out the other 2 times.

I have Sulla on ignore, but I know what he'll be posting about, so I guess I'm not missing anything. Would like this forum to have the facility where you can't see they've posted, like TennisForum, but ho-hum.

Even Broad has got one right ! not a great advertisement for umpiring in this innings 293 looks a decent score on this pitch but will need to see how well we bowl on it and how well cook uses the spinners which imo has never been one of his strengths as a captain |

and then he is out after another review
not a great advertisement for umpiring in this innings 293 looks a decent score on this pitch but will need to see how well we bowl on it and how well cook uses the spinners which imo has never been one of his strengths as a captain Dharmasena had all 4 reviews of his decisions overturned Just commenting on TMS how appropriate it was that Broad should be involved when the record was broken.

Moeen bowls a couple of rippers and Kayes and Haque are out
Just what we needed as lunch approaches with the openers looking comfortable Off to work for me
