Anyone else thoughts ?”

I agree. I don't see Ballance, for example, being dropped after one Test of this tour. It's not the current management style. I don't see changes unless for particular reasons such as injury.

I'd drop Ballance but given how loyal they seem to be to players I expect them to give him another chance in the second test

I don't think you could make more than 1 change given that we won the match.

It's one of those. If they make that one switch then fair enough, if they don't then fair enough

I think they will go with the same XI

I'd change Hameed and Ansari, for Ballance and Rashid though, as both of those guys did okay in the warm-ups. Hameed to open and Duckett at 4. Batty's second innings bowling earns him a reprieve.”

Rashid took 3 wickets and scored 35 runs, the difference between winning and losing.

I might possibly give Hameed a chance to open instead of Duckett, We need to see what he is like before India.

I'd make a few changes . 4 days in those conditions need to be taken into account with not much gaps between the schedule coming up

Finn, Ball, Ansari and Buttler are better than 'squad players' and would not lower the quality

Times have changed with the way schedules are now made up. Rotation is important to prevent injuries

As an aside, the cameramen /broadcasting team deserve a big thank you for surviving those conditions

yeah 7 tests in an 8 week period is going to be tough and without belittling bangladesh the big series is india so we need to make sure we know what our best XI is before the 9th

Michael Atherton on the highlights from today on Sky said 'If you're listening in England it's 5 in the morning on a cold November morning'

November?

Stokes batting average has very nearly overtaken his bowling average so its a sign he's becoming a quality allrounder

Stokes has now played 45 innings but has never had a not out.

A bit of red ink would help his batting average considerably.

Might not be of KP proportions, but BMac's book containing details of his rift with Ross Taylor wont help team morale much for the Black Caps who are having a difficult time in India

England name an unchanged squad for the India Tests. So, no Hales. Anderson may join later.

Bit of a kick in the teeth for Hales but its his own doing. Glad to see they have stuck with the guys who put their hands up for Bangladesh. Plus they will be match fit

Haha he never sounds full of enthusiasm at the best of times. I still think this match is quite open. It could all change with a few wickets but if I had to pick anyone in world cricket to chase down a score for me it would be Kohli and Rahane.

NZ looked to be heading for 300+ after the start they had so not sure how good this total really is

this is now a big partnership as the rest of the batting order looks a bit weak

So Hales jumped before he was pushed. Not only was he deliberating whether to give Bangladesh a miss he also had to decide if to tell the ECB before or after the Banga tour party was named. As now he looks a bit silly by making himself unavailable for a tour he was never going on.

he would almost certainly have been there for the ODI part of the tour if he had been available

Morgan didn't put his hand up either.

what does hales losing his spot in the test squad after choosing not to tour bangladesh have to do with morgan, given morgan didn't have a spot in the test team to lose anyway ?

2 changes for the next test according to reports:

Finn in for Broad and Ansari in for Batty

Makes sense to rest Broad and have a look at Ansari. I'm shocked that Ballance survives again. It means that if he fails again we'll probably be putting someone in the team for the first test against India who has had little time batting in test match conditions
