Tamin goes for 104

Mahmudullah comes in and hits his 8th ball for 6 seemingly continuing their one-day approach

Excellent turnaround from England

Bangladesh are now 202/6 with Moeen and Stokes doing the damage

Poor old Dharmasena, at this point I think he is better off just tossing a coin than trying to make an actual judgement.

Quite

The last one was close but the earlier catch down the leg side that he gave was poor

Duckett goes early, Cook out on review....

Dharmasena has his 3rd overturn of the day

Both openers gone and we're 24/2

Ballance gone for 9 and we're 42/3

Duckett and Ballance not repaying the faith shown in them

Here comes Moeen in very poor light

I would have protected him and sent in Finn possibly ?

EDIT Didn't realise there is still an hours play left. It looks very dark

Ballance & Batty should be at home Christmas shopping - I have no idea why the selectors took them. Neither should be near a test ground never mind playing.

Little unfair on Batty. He didnt have a bad first test

Understood Darren but no merit in original selection - nowhere near a test class player. Bit like the old Derek Pringle days. So we have a young spinner on tour who has had a tough test innings - he goes to India on back of this.

Why do they keep selecting Ballance? He is so poor.

You don't get a test average over 40 by being poor. He is just ridiculously out of form at the moment. Needs work on his game. I can see why they took with them it being a pretty inexperienced batting line up anyway. This will be his last test for some time i think

Last test I pointed out his average - it's darned good (but going down quickly now I suppose) so what do you do with players out of form when there are others trying to get in? As you say it will probably be his last test - maybe he will be replaced by Hameed and Ballance hangs around in India in case of injury or another batsman out of form.

Problem is, Hameed's likely to be debuting and opening in India without a first-class (let alone Test) game behind him, which would have provided an excuse for resting Ballance for this game and playing Hameed; whereas to counter that at least Ballance has had some time in the middle if he plays in the first India Test.

Spot on - Ansari & Hameed should have played in 1st test instead of Ballance & Batty. The selectors should do some navel gazing - not sure why they were swayed - maybe the press campaign for Batty (why?) but not sure how Ballance got selected. Now we head to India with 2 young untried (almost) players

Like few other elite umpires, he just guesses. When I did umpires courses I was told, " Give them out if you are very sure they are out, otherwise give not out "

Why Ansari? His stats show that he is a bits and pieces county player. What has he done in the first class game to merit playing for England.?

Well that was first day and a half.

Thought Bangla were on the way to 400+

Think we may do well to get a 1st inns lead

Why Batty? Cos Surrey got to the one day Lords final? Cos a few London journos championed his mediocre cause?

Girly question.

What are those insects that are flying around? They look like dragonflies but usually they are near water.

And what if they'd played and failed ? How would that have helped them ? Duckett has played both tests and not covered himself in any glory. Do you think that's a good or a bad thing going to India ?

Ballance certainly needs dropping but for me Hameed is not the answer. Buttler is.

Why you are so critical of Batty I don't know. As I've said before, and you acknowledged, he played ok in the first test. We will never know if Ansari would have played better but I'd be happy to wager he wouldn't have.

I agree about Ballance. I think his chances have been spent now. For me, I might still give Hameed a chance, but I can equally see the case for Buttler.

I also agree about Batty. He didn't do badly in the first test and was taken as the best off-spinner the county system had to offer, against a side with a lot of left-handers, so I think his selection was valid. I think the lack of better options is the main concern here.
