........

I would go with Rashid. He averages 3 wickets a game, better than any of the others and he never sells his wicket cheaply.

Certainly not
He has the advantage over Moeen Ali in the test all rounder stakes imo. Since the one early failure in the UAE when he was so close to saving us he's tried his hardest. Mo in comparison has days when he gets hit into the stands too much or has his stumps splayed going for the heroic big shot. I still believe in Mo as at present there is no one else. So on a highly turning wicket I'd go with the spin options of Rasheed Ansari and Mo nothing ventured nothing gained. Who knows maybe indian arrogance and complacency might save us from a whitewash.

As for the recent poor showing I blame the selecters who must take some responsiblity. If we'd let junior teams tour out there or on similar wickets in recent years surely we'd have some batsmen with the confidence and ability to play the likes of Mehedi etc.

No we are the only test country brave enough to play tests there recently and with our poor pre test match preparation and batsmen not really skilled to play on these wickets. Bangladesh set the traps of these wickets and came away with one win. I'm sure other countries if they go over in similar circumstances will come unstuck too.

It's not a bad idea to play Duckett at 4 but I doubt if the management will shift him after he played a good innings opening today. Assuming Ballance is dropped (which is not entirely certain) I can see them bringing in Buttler even though he hasn't been playing red-ball cricket.

In our league that would have been a 3 to 8 game ban.

Several.

What about the first time we lost to Zimbabwe ?

Likewise Sri Lanka.

After the first test it cannot be that great a shock that we lost rthe second test.

Zimbabwe back then had a decent side with two World Class players in Andy Flower and Heath Streak. Sri Lanka had Aravinda Da Silva, Chaminda Vaas, Sanath Jayasuriya and Muttiah Muralitharan

You cant say that these teams were poor

We didn't lose to Zimbabwe, we just failed to win a test match where Zim hid the ball for the last day to stop us knocking the runs off.

But Zimbabwe were no decent side on paper. Andy Flower was world class and Heath Streak ok but most of the others wouldn't even be any good in County div2.

Here's the biggest Test upset i know of. Pakistan losing to Zimbabwe in 2013:

not sure how losing to bangladesh this weekend can be classed as the biggest upset in test history given we almost lost to them just a week ago as well

I think we can all assume the next time Bangladesh tour England they will be facing a very green top with a 4 seamer attack + Stokes............we all get carried away but our guys dont play on a dustbowl (or anything approaching) during an English summer.

I never said they were poor. The first defeat against teams is always a shock.

Grant Flower and David Houghton were also useful, so as a team they were no mugs.

Looks like India got a small injury crisis although that might mean India guaranteed to play 3 spinners.
Although depends on the pitch with pandya included as well.

Buttler could be the one batsman that can disrupt the spinners, reverse sweeps, hoiks over long-on etc; but if he had 10 innings, how many would he reach 50+ and how many would he be out for single figures? If he's not picked we'll never know of course, but side-by-side, how many times out of that 10 would Hameed reach 50+?

Is there room for both if we play one less seamer? That would possibly mean dropping Woakes or Finn and relying on two seamers + three spinners (Ali as all-rounder)?

KP with the benefit of hindsight saying he wasn't happy with the decision to bat first

not really liking the BT coverage of the test, as much as the channel 9 team annoy me, having the regular breaks in coverage to go back to the BT studio to get the views from ponting, vaughan and swann makes it feel a bit disjointed

looking like a completely different game now that the kookaburra has got a bit softer and hasn't got the same carry or movement off the pitch

SA might regret not managing to get through that first session with a couple of more wickets in hand to be able to make the most of what looks like good batting conditions

edit : 2 deliveries later Bavuma gets out to Nathan Lyon

Terrific victory for the West Indies (even though it was a dead rubber)

Not many have won a Test away to Pakistan recently

Their first away win for 9 years against a side ranked higher than them

Big contribution from the unbeaten Kraigg Braithwaite with 142 * and 60*

wasn't really following that game but must have been a "timeless test" for Braithwaite to have faced enough deliveries to score 200 runs in a game

Not sure how long it has been since a West Indies opener carried their bat either

Unfortunately, they don't play another Test for 5 months. Plenty of time for plenty of fall outs......

SA all out for 242

probably mixed feelings about that, after choosing to bat first i would expect they wanted alot more than that but after being 32-4 they will probably take it

cracking innings of 84 by De Kock

comedy of errors there

massive appeal for an LBW from SA

umpire gives it not out, SA review

review shows it was a no-ball which the umpire missed but the hawkeye shows it was hitting so his LBW decision was wrong too

Yeah, thought that was out in real time

Always confuses me as to whether SA lose a review for this ?
