It does seem impossible to get the series winning team 'up' for a dead rubber
Before the game Cook was all over the radio telling us there'd be no let up, every game was important etc etc.........but on that first day in particular England were just 'on the beach'
The series losing team have a lot more to play for as the players are probably under pressure for their places having lost the series
England used to regularly win the dead rubbers at The Oval after losing series
It seems to be a problem endemic to sport..........it happens in football as well if a team has won the title with a couple of games to go they often lose them
