Terrific over from Shami

Softens Woakes up with a short ball that hits him and then gets him next ball with another short one

Rashid is then caught hooking another short one

Double wicket over with the new ball and the last pair together

Hameed went into one day mode at the end and India have 103 to win

As mentioned on the radio, Baby Boyks to Baby Botham

Vijay gone and it would be good to get a couple more scalps

my guess is that Hameed's finger has been iced up a lot to get it to the stage where he felt comfortable batting. Swelling can go down a lot in a day.
He looks quite a player so well done to him. He does look about 12 though, although I'm getting old

India complete their victory with a day to spare

Hope Hameed is able to complete the tour

Hameed is returning home for an operation on his hand

Makes today's effort seem even more superb with only the aid of paracetomol

It seems no matter the sport, the ranking system does seem to be controversial at the very least!

The squad we picked for India was a disgrace, Ballance, Ball, Batty and Finn were wasted spots Billings, Leach, Roy and Borthwick should have been in there but the selectors won't try anything new if we wanted another seamer then Plunkett for Borthwick

Pity. He batted better with one hand than everyone else with two...

Hope he's fully recovered for the start of Lancashire's relegation battle. 4 months, should be OK.

Now the search is on to replace him. Wonder if he's got a brother?

Sister??

I don't recall you posting this at the time.

Plus those 4 have one test match between them. So you would have taken more inexperienced players to a place where conditions are so different to what they are used to ? Interesting suggestion.

As for the selectors not trying anything new - is this the same selectors who chose Hameed, Duckett and Ansari ?

Well played India.

Will England call for a replacement for Hameed and, if so, who?

Sad news for Hameed but on the plus side, it showed what tremendous courage he has. He didn't actually want to leave the tour either and wanted to delay the operation for 3 weeks.

There doesn't seem to be a stand out replacement . Has to be a right hander you would think

Hameed was very stupid in my opinion, you don't put your health on the line like that, he should not have played.
As soon as the diagnosis came through, he should have been sent home to get the surgery.

People saying that what he did batting for three hours etc was brave etc, are just wrong, it was pure ego on his behalf, there are more important things in life than a match, especially one that we stood no chance of winning.

Blimey, it's only his little finger, you sound like he's about to lose his eyesight. I do agree he shouldn't carry on with the series, he could make it worse fielding and it would hamper his batting, but you try stopping someone involved in a game from carrying on! "Oy, mate, you've broken your arm!" "That's OK bud, I'll use the other....."

Remember Captain Kate, two games off with a thoroughly smashed jaw, back for the remainder to make sure she got her bronze medal...??

We romanticise these things, but a person's health should come before a match, no matter the sport or the player concerned.

As for trying to stop someone, surely that is the coach or managers job, to look out for a players well being, as of course they will want to play come what may, and most would probably try and play with two broken legs, but it should not be up to the player concerned to decide.

I was impressed with Hameed. He's a fighter.

Including a disasterous first test, Rashid has now taken 33 wickets in 8 games. His average is now better than Alii and so is his strike rate. Can there be any doubt that he is our best slow bowler ?

What then would you have thought of superbiker Troy Bayliss who lost his little finger in a race then came back to race while still suffering damage to a testicle from the same crash which later needed surgery?

I would think that was reckless and stupid, surely a sportsperson wants to have as long a top level career as is possible?
You don't do so by carrying on whilst injured.

Should have mentioned he was 38 at the time and very much already at the end of his career.

Then you have to think about your long term health, which as a person you hope will be good for a fairly long while after your sports career has finished.

Ansari was an awful selection Joe Root is a better bowler and he probably never practises it
Billings spent a whole year playing IPL so hardly inexperienced is he?

yeah those 88 runs he scored in 5 games of t20 would have set him up really well for playing test cricket ...

in total he faced something like 10 overs of bowling during competitive play
