Inspiring knock, a wonderful century on his debut by Jennings which I can only hope will be followed up by the remaining batsmen tomorrow. Mo had a good knock today , shame he got out at 50 and didnt take it further. He's going to be confident now and on this shagged out looking pitch I want to see him make india pay with better bowling.

Well, that's a problem I didn't see coming, three openers chasing two spots. Maybe Cook can go in at No11 and have Jimmy protecting him from the strike!!

Seriously, if I were cook I'd be thinking "OK, I'm nearer retirement than they are" meaning letting Hameed and Jennings open and dropping myself to No3.

Cook 3, Root 4, think we can assume Hameed's here to stay, so if Jennings does make a decent fist of it it's looking very strong up top.

Or move Root back to 4 and play all three up top?

Scyld Berry has the gall to suggest that Cook should be replaced as captain if he loses the 4th test.

What an idiot. Replace the captain mid tour, for just the last test. As if its Cooks fault that the pitch suits Indian spinners or that at home Indians are transformed into very very good players.

His articles are also close to the line with regards to the culture. Got embroiled in online spat about caste issues and why lower casts clean bins etc etc.
But these weren't traditional Indian turning pitches, it was a poor performance by England.

Jennings scores a ton and he's a certainty for years to come

Had he scored 6 he'd be a failure and should never ever have been picked.

It's amazing how soon, these days, we make our minds up. In the past it was always based on a few tests.

Pleased for him though and happy we have another promising opener. Hameed would be my pick for number 3.

Clearly that's right after just one innings, remember Frank Hayes, anyone? But he's done it and should be guaranteed the rest of the series + 2 more games minimum.

If Jennings continues, Hameed @ 3's an option, although IIRC he's never been at 3 for Lancashire. Maybe Hameed opening and Jennings @ 3 - especially if we need reasonably quick runs (although Hameed's proved he's no slouch when it matters)?

How safe is Buttler if Hameed and Jennings play?

Well said. Especially as he was dropped on 0.

I'm really pleased to see two young openers go so well so far. But i'm certainly not counting any chickens until i've seen them against out and out pace and against fast swing/seam bowler like Steyn. It took a while for Ballance to be found out, and of the recent test century on debutant players there's not a huge number who've kicked on. I am quietly rather optimistic mind, especially with regard Hameed

How come the English selectors did not pick Keaton Jennings in the first place. Why are we picking him now when were already two tests down in the series

Not a good start for England with a successful review getting rid of Stokes and another fivefer for Ashwin, the 23rd time he's achieved it.

Good effort from England . 400 will be a very challenging total

400 up, nine wickets down

How long can Jimmy survive? Not much longer would be my guess

Now we'll see how the England bowlers do. Should they have picked one more spinner?

That's being kind to him. Shocking stuff being served up to the Indian batsmen

Disappointing with the ball so far but we have scored 400 in our first innings and it gives us the chance to fight back tomorrow. I havnt seen the english only heard their bowling and it was pretty grim at times It surprised me that Rashid and Mo didnt do better with that total behind them.

I guess the comments about our spinners being awful have been backed up by today's efforts

You just know how this game is going to go. India get 500+ and we get bowled out for 150 in our second innings

Well you did say England would lose 5-0 and not score over 250 so you've been right so far

Because they didn't pick the team with the benefit of hindsight, how silly of them.

Powar a former spinner believes that pitch will start turning from day 3 after tea. I sorta believe him as he knows that pitch well.

If India post 500 then Eng will have a tough time scoring more than 250 in 2nd innings.

India will easily get 150 however bad the pitch becomes in day 5 as eng cant exploit a spinning track.

He was the most popular 'ejection' with 4 players dumping him

Only 2 players have him at the moment
