That 800 didn't stir much excitement from me. Maybe Caster thundering round in some ridiculous time might have stirred me up a bit.
Well Semenya is going to be in full view of the world in Rio and whatever anyone thinks, she is going to be a worldwide talking point once again. Kratochvilova's ancient mark surely under huge threat now, a case of the controversial following the controversial?

10.96 again for MJTL, into a 0.7m/s headwind this time.

There could be two Ivorians in the Olympic final.

Looks like another easy victory on home soil for Mo - although the sight of him gapping the field in a 5,000m race (rather than 3,000m/2 miles) is unusual.

That's his fourth sub-13 clocking - 12:59.29 WL. (The fact it's actually a WL at this point in the season is surprising - major contrast with 2012 when Dejen Gebremeskel clocked 12:46.81 in Paris).

Excellent performance by Andrew Butchart to beat Bernard Lagat for second place (13:14.85 / 13:14.96 SB respectively).

I've noticed there's quite a few Indians in the World Juniors this year, they've suffered from a bad reputation for doping in the recent past - dodgy Ukrainian national coach. We have to go back to Anju Bobby George in the early 2000s for a decent world class Indian athlete.

She doesn't do much for me. I think she's a bit hefty and, dare I say it, maybe even slightly masculine.

I am glad you agree Mandark, though Kendra isn't a reigning World champ only proving this season she is the "real deal". Not sure there is space for the best of the year so far....but maybe recent'ish world record holder should be considered.

The US need to reconsider their selection criteria, though we all know you will need a multi gold winning athlete, of the stature of Carl Lewis or Michael Johnson at their best, have a "sniffle" on trials day, before the US will even consider changing their rules. Its a shame because we all miss out if the best athlete is fit and absent!!

EDIT: Maybe a big sponsor could nudge the US selectors in the right direction if their athletes looks to be missing out on a major championship. However its really a US problem, because most countries do not possess the depth of athletes that the US track team usually have.
Aren't the trials a popular TV event? Perhaps having great trials is more important than an odd athlete missing out?

Oh, dear, race walkers apart Team GB continue to be rubbish in Bydgoszcz. No more medals tonight. Looks like a very boring 2024 Olympics.

Yes I am sure they are watch by many, and would still be if the first two plus 1 (possibly the third place runner) would qualify.

However most of the world outside of the USA don't get to see the trials on TV, yet most of the world do get to see the Olympics on TV.

What if the "odd athlete" was not Kendra, in the 100 H but an superstar athlete in the mould of MR Bolt, Mr Lewis or your name sake Mr Lewis, who twisted their ankle a day before the trials. Yes you can twist an ankle walking onto the starting blocks in the final but that is not my point.

The fastest and world record holder would have been given a discretionary place in all teams outside of the USA.

If her 100m flat speed is good enough. Colin Jackson used to be in the GB sprint relay team. Think he was a 10.3 sprinter.

Yes Colin used to compete in the 4x100m relay, as did hurdler Tony Jarrett and the 4x400 relay had Sally Gunnell, Kriss Akabusi and more recently Perri Shakes-Drayton competing even though they were all hurdlers. But that was only because they had very decent 100 and 400 metre speeds coupled with a lack of depth in the UK team in providing 4 or 5 specialist sprinters.

All things being equal Colin (much as I respect him) was sprinting in a period when only Linford and John Regis excelled and he was not required once depth arrived with the 100 & 200 sprinters in the late 90's (Dwain, Marlon, Darren, Jason, Christian and Mark LF etc.).

Kendra's 11.30 metres flat would struggle to get in the UK team let alone the US. She is a very technical runner hence the near perfect world record at the hurdles, however at 5'4" and probably 50Kg body weight, I don't think she has the power and/or leg length to excel at 100 metre flat.

Tell that to Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Amazing performance from her in the hurdles yesterday. Such a shame she won't be in Rio.

Carl Lewis did fail to qualify for the sprints in 1992. Michael Johnson and Maurice Greene both failed to qualify for the 200m in 2000. It doesn't seem to make any difference.

I said power and/or leg length. Shelly has power, as did 5'1" Olympic 100m champion Gail Devers (remember her long nails!). Alyson Felix has leg length, 5'6" with the legs of a 5'10" person. Obviously a combination of both is great..... Mr Bolt , but Kendra is about the technique and I don't see her beating 11 seconds without a large muscle weight gain ........ or unless she is still growing in height

Carl Lewis did fail to qualify for the sprints in 1992. Michael Johnson and Maurice Greene both failed to qualify for the 200m in 2000. It doesn't seem to make any difference.
The difference is that by 1992 Carl was past his best in 100m and there were better; Burrell, Mitchell & Witherspoon, though he still kicked ass in the long jump.....what a final!!!.

Regarding Maurice Green he was past his best at 200m and never won a major event at that distance again specializing at 100m and MJ was past his best at 200mm too though he was still great at 400 metres for a year or two after 2000.

Kendra is at her peak at 100 hurdles!!!

The US selection system has existed for as long as I can remember and probably for a good while before that. It works absolutely fine for them. It's a shame when it means missing out on a star like Keni but the alternatives are worse & would likely result in law suits and the like. Very messy.

The US have too much depth in too many events - it's the only way

I think they've been lucky and have cheated though. Kendra is a relatively unknown female track star. Her money generating value was not that high. It's now a lot higher of course. But if Carl Lewis had caught a cold during the 1984 trials, I bet they would have found a way of getting him in the games. The whole world, and the sponsors of course, wanted to see him there and there would have been hell to pay if it looked like a fit Carl Lewis wasn't going,

In fact we now know what the Americans were prepared to do to get top athletes to the games back then because there were a load of failed tests at the 1984 Olympic trials and in 1988 which were covered up at the time.

You're twisting things to suit your argument. The trials are first 3 whoever you are

True but if you involve a panel of selectors in any way the potential for politics at best & corruption at worse is far more likely.

That was Michael Johnson't argument. He missed out on the 1991 Tokyo World Champs 4x400 - which GB won - because of coaching politics. The US system means that coaches have no trust in each other.

SAFP isn't the same athlete this year. Shame as she'd have real competition even if at her best this year.
You still feel she can come back to claim the gold in Rio...
