Well Semenya is going to be in full view of the world in Rio and whatever anyone thinks, she is going to be a worldwide talking point once again. Kratochvilova's ancient mark surely under huge threat now, a case of the controversial following the controversial?

Also, regadring Harrison, I guess she could still compete in Rio, IF Nia Ali +#4 and #5 at US Trials all agree on it. Not sure if it would be a good thing though.
I would not give up my Olympic Spot even if my friend just made a new WR. Also, as the pressure got to her in Eugene, it's very likely it will do again in Rio esp if she gets there at someone elses expense. So expect kind of disaster if she turns up... |

The US selection system has existed for as long as I can remember and probably for a good while before that. It works absolutely fine for them. It's a shame when it means missing out on a star like Keni but the alternatives are worse & would likely result in law suits and the like. Very messy.
The US have too much depth in too many events - it's the only way |

Some more thoughts on London.
1. Did HAA slim down a bit? I used to find him "massive" whereas now he was just "huge". 2. Where was Elliot Giles? Hmf. That was it actually. I can agree on those thinking Dafne is a tad masculine. Also 800 without Caster is super boring

I've noticed there's quite a few Indians in the World Juniors this year, they've suffered from a bad reputation for doping in the recent past - dodgy Ukrainian national coach. We have to go back to Anju Bobby George in the early 2000s for a decent world class Indian athlete.
Curiously, the linked article (dated February 28) says he turned 19 a couple of months prior - either that's a typo, or his DOB (see IAAF profle) is false. In any case, he seems to be one for the future. |

Both GBR teams sub-38!!
GBR A 37.78 WL! GBR B 37.81! Had Ujah actually run a fast anchor leg, the AR (37.73 from Seville 1999) would be gone. |

.............The difference is that by 1992 Carl was past his best in 100m and there were better; Burrell, Mitchell & Witherspoon, though he still kicked ass in the long jump.....what a final!!!.
Regarding Maurice Green he was past his best at 200m and never won a major event at that distance again specializing at 100m and MJ was past his best at 200mm too though he was still great at 400 metres for a year or two after 2000. Kendra is at her peak at 100 hurdles!!! Quote:
You're twisting things to suit your argument. The trials are first 3 whoever you are
Not forgetting all three still got to perform in another two events each; Carl (L.Jump & 4x100) Michael (400M & 4x400) and Maurice (100m & 4x100). Kendra on the other hand is the best at the event (all year) and does not have another event to fall back on like the three mentioned. As others have said and articulated by Mandrake: “I think they've been lucky and have cheated though. Kendra is a relatively unknown female track star. Her money generating value was not that high. It's now a lot higher of course. But if Carl Lewis had caught a cold during the 1984 trials, I bet they would have found a way of getting him in the games. The whole world, and the sponsors of course, wanted to see him there and there would have been hell to pay if it looked like a fit Carl Lewis wasn't going”. Quote:

That's the point I think. Any other way and in the home of the lawsuit the big winners would be the lawyers.
![]() http://www.skysports.com/more-sports...-of-disrespect We all know the real reason the US have not changed the rules; “depth and quality” in their team, the lawsuit argument is just an excuse, when a robust & transparent appeal procedure could deal with 99% of the third place selection decisions. As I have said I just want to see the best (assuming they are fit and in form) compete at the Olympic Games. |

Elvira Herman (BLR) won the women's 100mH with a 12.85 (+2.0m/s) CR. No fewer than five competitors broke 13 seconds, which I believe is unprecedented for an U20 event.

Oh, dear, race walkers apart Team GB continue to be rubbish in Bydgoszcz. No more medals tonight. Looks like a very boring 2024 Olympics.
In any case, they still did better than they did in 2004, when the likes of JE (as she was then) won nothing at all. As we all know, that lead to a very boring 2012 Olympics.

All remaining events devoid of Brits, so a solitary gold is all they have. TBH I wasn't expecting much from this particular team and was actually surprised they produced a champion.

Given the inevitable turnover at this level having the odd disappointing championship isn't an issue. It only becomes a problem if you get below par performances over a number of years.

Unless all the attention suddenly "gets" to her. She wins the gold easily if she wants to. Very excited to see her on 400.

She doesn't do much for me. I think she's a bit hefty and, dare I say it, maybe even slightly masculine.
Going to miss my favourite drug cheating Amazon, Lysenko, at the games!!http://www.skysports.com/more-sports...ded-doping-ban |

I suppose SAFP could get her form back but does she need more races. She might not be like Bolt who can almost turn up after a few training runs and still win.

Caster will make sure she wins but she won't go after the record. If she beats Krat's dubious record, she knows there will be people out there calling her a man again and she doesn't want that.

I can't see her doing it this time. She's running out of time & she doesn't really seem to be improving. With the likes of Elaine Thompson, Bowie, Gardner & Shippers around she will struggle to get any medal.

True but I don't think Caster has street recognition yet i.e. Everyone will know Caster after the Olympics after a win.
US is not that amazing on 800 so she probably not that famous there at the mo |

Well I haven't seen much Athletics this year so what a time to tune in. Keni Harrison just poetry in motion and what fabulous reactions when the realisation hit her and her competitors-brilliant stuff.
Kendra says she thinks she can break the WR again .......... this season!

Just caught up on the DL after being away for a few days. WOW, Keni Harrison! Really pleased for her. Slowly but surely those women's records are falling. Maybe Keni can also have a crack at the 400H record during the USA's off-year in 2018? Quote:
WTF, what a time to have a massive clock malfunction. Embarrassing for London Stadium officials there.
Laura Muir ... Bloomin' marvellous!! She managed to stay on her feet after the race too! I said she'd break it this year. It came 5 weeks earlier than I thought it would though. Genuine bronze medal shot just ahead of Seyaum, Obiri & Hassan I'd say (though perhaps dependent on at least the last 600 being very fast.) Dibaba & Kipyegon remain the favourites for gold & silver. Worth a mention, just because it's probably very rare (and also because I'm a huge fan of her ) ... In the last 5 and a bit weeks Steph Twell has raced all the commonly-run distances between 400 and 5k - the 400, 800, 1500, 3000 & 5000 (she also ran a 4x400 relay leg on the same day she ran the 400 in a Southern League match).Quote:
... Also 800 without Caster is super boring
